  1. Resigning Petit seems like a no-brainer but we don’t know what Eppler has in mind. Right now there is Bedrosian, Middleton and Parker. If Ramirez is healthy he is a viable candidate for the pen or rotation. Skaggs, Richards, Heaney and Tropeano are question marks heading into the spring. Cobb will get a three or four year deal from someone, hopefully not the Angels. Tony Watson on a two year deal would be a quality addition to the pen with his versatility. I would stay away from the 4+ year contracts to the available starters, none are wprth the gamble.

If they can get any org's #15-30 prospect for any one of them, or a Top 15 for two of them, they need to pull the trigger.

Guerra and Paredes are killing it in AAA and guy still like Scribner, Morin, Alvarez, Pounders, and Magnifico can get an extended shot to end the year to determine their value going forward.

Morin has proven his value-strictly AAA quality. Pounders and Alvarez are in the same category, to me that leaves the other two to show what they have. The Angels need to address the absence of a lefty in the pen for next season.

  3. Third base is not a position of need for most of the contending clubs. Given that Escobar is a free agent at the end of the season his value in trade is not much. The Red Sox are the only team looking for a third baseman and I would think that Escobar is way down the list of possible replacements.

I wouldn't trade Bedrosian or Parker yet., remember that deals are made in August also. I think it is better to wait until some teams are desperate for bullpen arms or need an Escobar because of injuries.

  4. The way the roster looks today the position players worth keeping with Trout are Simmons and Maldonado. The top position players in the system are at the lower levels of the minors. There is no power hitting first basemen, no sure thing at second or third. In 2020-21 Trout can be flanked by Adell and Jones. The only saviors will be healthy starters among Heaney, Skaggs, Tropeano and who ever is brought up from the minors.

It is way too hard to predict with any certainty where #27 will wind up. The prudent thing may be to check out trade possibilities in a couple years if the Angels are still floundering.

  5. There was no real competition for Hamilton when he became a FA. Arte ended up bidding against himself. The fact that Texas didn't go all out to sign him should have been the Red Flag for all other teams. It was a stupid move by Arte to sign him to that bloated contract after his secon half collapse last season.

Four more years of his declining abilities and eight more of Albert. This franchise will be hamstrung for yhe duration of these megadeals.

  6. There is no sense in rehashing the past and playing the "what if" game. This is an underperforming team with some horrible contracts and a decimated system. If Dipoto stays he needs to focus on rebuilding the farm first, because he is stuck with AP and JH for the next several years., not to mention Wilson. Any trades need to produce prospects with upside or young major league players. Let's hope he is up to the task.

  7. The downward spiral started in early April. This is a "Donut team", no middle of the order and a lack pf quality arms on the mound. Take away the eight game winning streak and that is the team you will see the rest of the season.

  8. Maybe you don't can MS now, but you can sure dump Butcher. Name one Angel's pitcher who developed under Butcher. Take the same staff and give it to Dave Duncan guarantee it would perform way better. Same with the hitters. Give them a good hitting coach and you will see different results.

  9. Hard to have accountability when every one is signed long term. This mess lays at the feet of Dipoto. He put this crap together, he should go out the door with it. The Hamilton signing alone should get him fired. Not dumping MS and his accomplices is another reason. There has just been no reaction on the FO part. How can he just sit there and do nothing?

  10. It is nice to dream but at some point you have to wake up and di a reality check. This team is just not very good. 70 wins looks like a reasonable goal to me. There are no everyday players playing for a new contract. This team, to me, lacks incentive. Sit back and see if there is any improvement in the next 3-4 years. Right now I don't see it.

  11. Rebuilding will take 3-5 years. My first move would be to put Trumbo at first and DH Albert. You have to hope Hamilton can find any semblance if his stroke(or he suffers a stroke). Please move Aybar out of the lead off position. Hit him 9th. Leadoff Shuck until Bourjos returns. Move Callaspo to the two hole and hit Trout third where he belongs. Move Pujols to 4th and hit Howie 5th until or if Hamilton can ever hit again.

The rotation should be Weaver, Vargas, Williams, Wilson and Hanson. Put Blanton deep in the pen and only use him in blowouts. Trade Scott Downs now to a team lookibg for a lefty specialist. Come July put everyone on the market except Trout, Trumbo, Weaver and Richards.

Try to load up on Foreign players before there is an international draft in 2015. Draft arms with high ceilings.

Replace Butcher and Eppard immediately. Butcher may be the worst pitching coach ever. Eppard doesn't seem to be helping any one . You know they won't replace Sosh, but they should.

  12. I would make everyone except Trout and Trumbo available. It is extremely hard to find a 40 homer guy to replace Trumbo, also Albert will mhave to move to full time DH (should do it now.).

Start next season with a new manager and staff.

The Angels need to go heavy into the foreign market the next two years before MLB institutes a draft of foreign players. I hope Dipoto and staff are capable of this. We shall see shortly.

Oh, if Butcher is not replaced ASAP then there is no hope. He brings nothing to the staff.
