  1. This umpire is? He's in the top group of umpires in the world, Mathis et al are/were in the top group of players. What's the difference?

lol, this is just getting sad.

    Sigh

Whatever man, if you dont want to debate then dont. I just feel sorry for the guy.

Become an umpire, blow some calls (inevitable), then see how you feel when people treat you like garbage.

    Shows peoples true character.

  2. Is there any stupider thing to say about anything than that? Jeff Mathis is a much better major league hitter than I am. Vernon Wells is too. Hell, Bobby Abreu and Juan Rivera even man corner OF spots better than I could. Does that mean I was wrong to criticize them when they were Angels?

    That's ridiculous.

Were they the best in the world at their profession?

  3. If I screwed up that badly on an account I managed at work, I WOULD BE FIRED.

You're super sensitive if you find what I posted offensive.

Very mature of you. What a nice guy.

And I'm glad you equate blowing 1 strike call with job terminating failure.

Because he doesn't have 250+ opportunities to make the same mistake.

Either way, why don't you keep your day job man. I don't think you have the gull to be an umpire.

  4. Ok, LAA, was it a strike? What is your professional opinion? Face it everybody the only reason we care about this is because it helps the Rangers. If this call went against the Rangers and the Rays had one, we would be laughing it off. I don't want electronic strike zone, I wouldn't mind expanded replays, but not to the extent of ruining the tradition or flow of a game.

Oh and to answer your question, it was a ball no doubt. I just think that the people screaming and crying about it or calling for his head don't actually realize how good these people are at their job.

If you guys want to start arguing for K-Zone and what not, fine. Just don't go throwing hate out there for umpires that are doing a damn better job than you ever would.

I'm speaking to the hate mongers of course.

  5. Easy now.  I think "hate monger" is a little bit over the top.

For years umpires have been the necessary evil in the game of baseball. Technology has advanced enough that their role can be lessened.... and should be.

At the very least, dolts like Marty Foster, Doug Eddings, Joe West, et al should be held accountable for their deplorable actions. If MLB or the Umpires Union can't do it, then expect the fans to do it, in a verbal way.

"deplorable actions"? You mean "calls you don't agree with"?

Once again, have you ever umpired any kind of real baseball in your life?

EDIT: Also, read the post I responded to above & quite a few others in this thread. "Hate mongers" beats any other obscenity that I would be justified in calling them.
