The Ohtani problem is he is only a month into his MLB career and he's missing time for blisters and a twisted ankle. Any more incidents and he's Shohei Itzuris.

That definitely seems to be the problem with his pitching. The fact he can't throw his splitter seems to be killing his potential on the mound.

So, you saw the first inning, which you included in your assessment that his pitches were wild and up in the zone.

He had blisters on his pitching hand. That's the reason why he couldn't locate his splitter, not because he's just wild and needs more seasoning. The fact remains his first two starts prove that point, regardless of your analysis.

I really don't know how you can't follow your own points.

    *sigh*

I never said the start against Boston was proof of anything. And him being "effectively wild" obviously doesn't apply to the Boston start.

Look, whatever you say, dude. I really don't care enough to argue. You're right, I'm wrong. Have a nice day.

Are you sure you watched because we haven't been to Boston yet.

Look dude, I saw him pitch the first inning against Boston. His splitter looked like shit, he threw about 30-40 pitches but only gave up one run. Probably had 4-5 wild pitches. Sorry if I wasn't paying super attention to location, I was watching from the bar where I play in my pool league on Tuesday nights.

Why am I defending myself? I don't give a rats ass if you believe me or not.

But that's baseball. The Red Sox probably didn't think they'd lose two out of three against the Oakland A's, you know the same team we beat 4 out of 5 games.

My old man always told me that baseball is a game of averages.

Ok, now I know you didn't watch. He didn't get away with anything in spring training

No, he left ball up in spring. Which, yes, he didn't get away with. Should've worded that better. I watched the man pitch every game except past the 1st inning in Boston.

I'm sorry if you don't believe me?

What have you seen that makes you think he needs more time as a pitcher? The one start against Boston?

He honestly looks a bit wild. Even before the Boston start. I mean, I guess he's "effectively wild". But, I think he just needs a bit more seasoning on the mound than at the plate is all I'm saying.

I think the problem could be him just being a 2-pitch pitcher now. Don't know if it's fear of hurting himself again but he's stopped throwing his curve. During the 2014 season he had that pitch mixed in with his slider and fastball and it was filthy.

Now he just doesn't throw it that much and just lives of the Fb and Slider, there really good pitches but there are two problems associated with this:

    1.  both are hard pitches, 90-98. Hitters Know that it's only hard stuff that's coming so Richards need to live of his command or on that filthy movement of his slider. Buy the problem is that he's not a command pitcher and when is slider hangs it's hit hard.

    2. Without his curve, he can change speed to keep the hitters off balance.

He thru one curve today and it was to Gardner and he couldn't even lift his bat.

He needs to start incorporating that pitch back into his arsenal to both lefties and righties for him to be effective.

    Interesting. Something I'll look for.

Going to a baseball game is a tremendous waste of money.

That said, going to my first game this year on Thursday to get that sweet poncho. Guess I'm a bad fan.
