12 of his 14K's against the Astros were sliders. But he can't throw them as much as he likes against lefties because it could result in a HBP, like it did against Aybar in the 1st inning. Other teams went out of their way to line up lefties and had success last year. But we are just too stubborn.

I'll take them when any other guy is on the opposing mound. Just not with Darvish.

They hit a combined .100 against Darvish. I've seen other teams go 100% lefties against him. That slider is the filthiest breaking ball in baseball.

Do we ever play matchups? I know Trumbo got a hit today, but he doesn't belong either. Play Schuck at DH and Romine at 2nd. Darvish dominates free swinging righties.

Howie Kendrick should never hit against righties with plus sliders. We all know he chases them.

The students themselves want to pitch badly because it's a once in a lifetime thing and it's so big of a deal in Japan. Teams usually aren't full of scholarship students like the NCAA, so having a huge drop-off between the ace and the next best pitcher is pretty common. You know, baseball is a sport where one big time ace pitcher can win you a tournament almost single-handedly, if he could pitch everyday. Which is why everyone wants to be a pitcher in Japan, and the best talent usually goes to pitching. Exceptions are like Ichiro, who was a pitcher but hurt his arm, and was forced to become an OF.
