I had roughly 30 Cal Ripken rookies, Topps, Donruss, Fleer, etc. A year ago, I contacted one of the few card dealers I could find - I am sure a lot of you know of him - he has a place in a little strip mall about a quarter mile from Marina High.  The guy said, sure, come on down, he will will take a look.

I went with my brother in law, when we got there, the guy couldn't even be bothered to look at them.  He never stopped making his cardboard boxes.  He said, "throw out a number", I gave a number prolly half of the current price, and he didn't even sniff at a counter offer.  That drive there and back was a complete waste of time.

I had a garage sale a couple of weeks later, and sold a bunch of cards, baseball, and especially basketball, for $400-$500 bucks.  I was ecstatic.

I would ride my bike up to that shop in the late 80's and spend all my money earned from my paper route there.  Best memory was winning a contest as I had the winning ticket for an Ernie Banks rookie card. I went into that store back in January for the first time in over 10 years to get some plastic holders to display some cards.  There was a customer talking to the guy behind the counter about baseball. He was a Yankees fan and he began spewing out how great his mighty Yankees will be.  The guy looked like a derelict so I just kept my mouth shut.  But then the subject of Mike Trout's free agency came up and he began saying how Trout will definitely sign with the Yankees.  The guy was so smug about it that I couldn't stop myself. This turned into one of the most heated arguments I've had with a stranger.I was just so blown away that he could just assume that Trout would go to the Yankees. Even after using logic and explaining to him that Trout's personality does not fit with such a large city and that if he did leave it would be to Philadelphia and not New York. We just kept going at it even as I was making my purchase. Finally I just left in a bad mood, high blood pressure and remembering why I never argue with Yankees fans.

  2. Calhoun absolutely should hit right next to Trout. This offense blows so any change won't help much but you need to do something. I'd rather see the lineup look like this

    Escobar

    Trout

    Calhoun

The rest of the lineup is junk after that so the order doesn't really matter.

Good logic. Too bad Scioscia doesn't apply any. It makes too much sense to surround the best hitters on the team around Trout.

  3. Interesting draft day for the Lakers.  Should the Lakers go for a big and draft Okafor, who has excellent skills in the post but plays poor defense and can't hit free throws. Or should they draft Russell and pick up one of the bigs available in free agency. Personally I want them to draft Russell and sign Kevin Love. Lakers need a point guard to help them match up with all the teams in the West with great point guards.

  4. I like seeing the progress of Clarkson, and the solid work by Ellington and Hill and others.

But now it increasingly appears that we HAVE to hope for the three worst teams to all come up in the lottery, otherwise the Nash trade totally screws this org!

If they lose that pick in this year's draft I will be really pissed.  I'm not a fan of the tanking philosophy because it's a loser's mentality...but the Lakers have to tank this year to keep their pick.  They have to do a better job of losing these close games. Also add me to the no to Rondo camp.  If the Lakers sign him and max him out...that could be the final straw for me.  This franchise has made some really boneheaded decisions the last few years.  I have stuck by them and hoped for better decisions moving forward and Rondo isn't one of them.  Damn between the Lakers debacle and UCLA 's mediocrity under Alford I have nothing to get excited about in my favorite basketball teams.

  5. Generally teams pitch according to defensive alignment.  For Albert they still pitch to the outside to him because they know he will still try to pull it and so he grounds out to the left side.  Trying to pull the ball on an outside pitch causes a hitter to hit the ball on the ground.  I wish Albert and a lot of other Angels hitters would go opposite field more often...especially with a runner on 3rd with less than 2 outs...easy way to get a sac fly.

  6. I was thinking about all those bizarre plays in past post seasons before this year's playoffs began and was hoping to not see these weird plays come up again...and of course here they come again.  I don't get it!  I do think you create your own luck by putting yourself in situations that can leave you vulnerable to this shit.  MS is not applying logic to some of his decision making.

  7. If I'm on business travel and its just me I don't even use the maids unless I'm there more than 2 nights. I'm only in my room to sleep and shower. I just leave the DND on the door my whole trip.

This. I usually do the same. I don't let them in. I will get fresh towels from them when I see them in the hall. I hate them knocking the door and yelling housekeeping. Just keep the DND sign up and don't have to deal with them. Also dont have to worry bout them taking shit.

  8. Trout doesn't have enough flair for espn 710.

Those two are annoying anyway, they latch onto anything that's trending in twitter

I heard that conversation. Her point made little sense. I can't stand MoMo, haven't agreed with any she has said on air for the past year. Mason is a fool and can't analyze sports. He's an arrogant SC and Dodgers homer. Loves making fun of UCLA even though they gave SC a thumping last year. So sick of local sports talk.

  9. Enjoy watching him hit. So glad he's not another Pujols. Josh might actually be worth the big money he's being paid. MS needs to move him into the 3rd spot behind Trout. He hits from the left side, produces good power and average. Doesn't it make logical sense to switch Hamilton and Pujols in the order?

  10. I would prefer our number 3 hitter get on base than make a "productive out" unless 1 run decides the game in the last inning of the game.

yes i would prefer a base hit from him in that situation.  But in a tight game late with no outs he should try to get a base hit by hitting to the opposite field.  So if he fails to get a hit atleast he moves the runner over.

  11. The more I see Pujols the more selfish he appears. The guy never seems to hit for the situation or to back up his team. Just the other day he came up after Trout just hit a double with no outs and the game was tight. Pujols fails to hit the ball to the right side and move Trout over. Crap like that pisses me off. I've also heard that Pujols doesn't like Trout stealing when he hits as it's too distracting. I don't know if that's true, but it sure seems that way watching him when Trout is on first. move him down and away from Trout.

  12. I expected more questions too. Maybe ask about the length of discussions on coming to terms. When did serious discussions start? Maybe ask a couple of personal questions for Mike like if he's going to live here year round or continue living on east coast on offseasons.

  13. I'd hope they cut Ibanez loose and bring up someone.   Green, Long, Shuck, they could all share the spot and the Angels would be no worse for the wear.

Agree.  Much rather have Cron, Long, or Green over Ibanez.  I have a feeling this is going to be my main gripe this season.
