  1. Your assuming that those other players were our main targets. Maybe Dexter is exactly who we've been waiting for but weren't going to sign him before the rest of the FA options. I just don't see how signing a player that fits us perfectly, as a panic move. If you don't want to lose a pick, why would you do it with Howie Kendrick and we would have looked dumb if we offered Freese one. You said I act like he's 28 and he hasn't even turned 30 but he's 29, so yeah he basically is that age. Not like Andre Ethier though, who is going to be 34! Basically If a player gives written consent to move his contract, he can be sent anywhere. If everyone and the League agree's, you can pretty much do whatever you want. Its just a task to get three independent parties to agree on anything these days it seems. Fowler's options were to turned down a one year deal at a higher AAV then he should get or receive multiple years at less of an AAV. We all didn't just roll out of bed this year and realize that the QO isn't working for everyday players anymore.
  2. Of course not, I can't even watch the Angels on a daily basis. You don't have to have a microscope on the guy too see that he's a competitor and plays the "style" of baseball Mike and the Angels Implement. He's honestly only been held back from minor injuries and bad luck. His injuries are coincidentally similar to David "Anti" Freese's though, which they both are victims of being hit in the hands! His legs have had only minor mishaps (that all athletes go through) and don't pose any long-term concerns. I wont lie, It's true that he has missed some time and almost every year in fact but some of those games missed are also from being on rebuilding teams with frequent turn-around and in-consistent playing time. I just haven't been convinced that these little nagging injuries hold any significant merit and your not helping the opposing side haha. Hey thanks TD, I work hard on these man. I've only been going on these long debacles because LF and 3b has been a major pain in the a** for this franchise, for way too long. We deserve competent players at these positions and should spend a little extra time on them. If you think it helps your case, DO IT! No one is going to scorn you for being too active of a member (They shouldn't). I spend to much time on my computer as is, so I personally won't justify to myself, the pulling up newfangled numbers. The numbers only tell part of the players story anyways and the real purpose of this site IMO, is to verbalize our individual "EYEBALL" tests. I mean if he played 145+ games a year, he would be a perennial All-star, most likely out of our price range and one of the most complete players in the League. We should be so fortunate that such a perfect match has fallen right into our laps. I get the impression that the qualifying offer process and Tax Threshold are going to change drastically in the next few seasons and we should take advantage of that. A sign and trade is treated like it's against the rules or like having a clubbed foot and we all just turn the other way. If it cost us a "measly" prospect as a transaction fee, then so be it but your not going to get a better example of a Major League baseball player than Dexter Fowler. He isn't a superstar (yet) but also isn't just some righty hitting specialist thats a ticking time bomb, like Ethier. As long as we keep our pick and he becomes a free agent after 2018, then both parties should be very interested IMO. 3/13-15MM seems very reasonable for this time of the year.
  3. I agree, thats why we've got to try and get around losing the pick. I liked your Ethier/Gentry platoon, earlier in the off-season that would have been a solid move. What's a fair contract to you? I say 3 or 4 years at 12-14MM per is fair. If Dexter's agent is super with it, I can live with giving him 4/60MM. ^^SYKEEE!^^
  4. Hey Tdawg, have you watched Fowler play on a daily basis? Other than what you read on paper, what makes you think he is a terrible defender exactly? What does Dexter Fowler NOT do, that this team desperately needs? Please, get into the argument. You have nothing but time on here apparently, so lets us all know EXACTLY why? As for 86, what does signing Fowler have to do with Patience? This team doesn't need a difference maker. We've allocated enough of our resources on "the franchise" type of player for now. We need players that are table setters and know how to play the fundamentals of the game. Its nice to have a player that can carry the team for a month or two but we dont NEED that. I'd rather have someone who shows up more than not and I'm sure If Dexter Fowler didn't have a pick associated with him, then he would already be an Angel. FYI, The dude most likely wont be a center fielder anymore anyways.
  5. I'm glad too see more people eventually voted for Dexter. Various said it perfectly though and It just makes it "easier" now that we don't match up, trade wise. It's not like Fowler is some crap defender either, he might not be the best center fielder in the League but the boy can play and fits our needs like a glove. Andre Ethier is the exact opposite of what this team needs. He just looks good because hes left handed, an out of place OF and is close to home. The only ex-dodger we should be focused on though is Hanley Ramirez. Most people think hes done but personally, I think Boston just doesn't mesh well with everyone. Getting Hanley is risky I know but If it's the money your worried about, don't, that can always be negotiated to a reasonable AAV.
  6. ...Wouldn't that be something else, If/when Arte eventually decides to sell the Team.
  7. A potential trade involving the CJ's? What about Wilson and Cron for Brock Holt, Hanley Ramirez and $10MM?
  8. My bad, I've got those lighting fast sausage fingssss. We definitely need the pick though, thats why we have to do it through a protected team. We don't need Ethier and his baggage. If Dexter only comes with potential injury risk, then sign me up and put him in the two hole.
  9. I'm sure its a huge shocker that I voted for Dexter Fowler but I'm shocked more of us voted for Either? I know they both have shocking on-base skills but he's old and can't hit lefties. IMO, Dexter Fowler at 4/45-50MM is far more valuable than Andre Either at 2/38MM.
  10. Anyone think San Diego would trade us Wil Myers? He's not a center fielder but if he stay's healthy, he would look nice in left field.
  11. I completely agree, I just feel the front end needs to be addressed somehow. I mean, its not like Cashner solidifies all of our questions in the rotation but he's also in a unique situation that could benefit both teams. Andrew has one year left on his deal, at a fair price and is on a team that doesn't really need him. He has never pitched a "full season" until now though and I'm sure he will have a ton to prove this year. Sure, he could blow up in our face like any other player but I'd rather roll the dice on what he could bring to the rotation versus what is our most valuable abundance. We have a stable of cost controlled, Major League ready pitching and hard throwing RP prospects. There are question marks associated with a few of them but most are Left Handed, which is baseball gold. Every team should be interested in that, us as well but we have other areas of need. Everyone knows we should be trading from a position of strength for a position of weakness. I don't know what has taken so long though, to make such obvious moves but I'm dying to know. I guess a ton of teams, including us, will see in two weeks who took care of themselves and is prepared to compete for a job.
  12. After thinking about it for a night, I'm not sure we need that kind of risk on the team. That's a lot of money for someone who has pitched beyond expectation for their entire career. Supposedly Baltimore is interested in him and they'll need a lot more than that IMO but Cashner could be a nice buy-low candidate for us. I came to the realization that Skaggs will be much better than I originally gave him credit for and could really help this team opening day. So as the days go by, Hector becomes more and more of an obvious choice for the chopping block. I like Hector Santiago by the way, he seems like a genuine and humble guy. This is a business though and he unfortunately has the most "realistic" value. Everyone always says that he gives up to many Home runs and there's something to that but He's a cost controlled, all-star level LEFTY. He has tons of value and is built for their ballpark. Every player is constantly adjusting and Hector is no different but he has to look at his target when he throws the ball to be consistent. He is exactly what a team like San Diego is looking for as a competitor/bridge to the future. IMO, Santiago is expendable because we need him to be that guy now. We don't have "time" for him to develop, our window is now! Plus, This organization is flushed with Left handed starting pitching. Andrew Cashner has a few question marks himself though but upper 90's cheese helps with that a lot. San Diego has no need for a flame thrower with one year left on his deal and they won't get as much if they trade him during the august 1 deadline. We pretty much only have Major/Upper minor League pitching to trade from and we still have holes to fix. The padres are looking for cost controlled pitching (LH) and thats our specialty. I'm not so sure we have all the pieces to tickle their fancy but we can alleviate them of bad contracts. A few possible blockbuster deals could include Fowler and Shields or Kemp and Cashner.
  13. Can anyone see a deal with San Diego, where we get Dexter Fowler and take on most of James Shields contract?
  14. I know what your saying, His injuries aren't his fault. At the end of the day though, He wasn't on the field and it effected the at-bats he did eventually get. If anything Escobar should play second and Cowart at 3rd. I'm a Giavotella supporter and I think he can turn his defense around. His bat is more than adequate for the position and he hits late in games. You take a handful of miscues away from johnny and he doesn't look so bad. His problem is that he isn't the most fluent looking fielder.
  15. .....Still wasn't on the field and still wasn't consistent. It should be obvious Injuries are a major cause of unfulfilled potential. If every player could stay healthy, then there would be way more all-stars and a lot fewer disappointments.
  16. .....Yeah and your response hit it right on the head. I won't argue numbers with you, It was one year. David Freese made this legend for himself by getting a few big hits in the World Series. The truth is that David Freese got a few big hits for us and landed a ton of DL time. If anyone thinks that David Freese is a consistent player and is better than either one of our current options, then shame on you.
  17. ......He'll be a better defender than David "anti" Freese. There's a reason why our former third baseman, who was supposed to be leading the third base market, is still out in the cold. The best part is that Escobar is cheaper than Freese and gives Cowart one more year to develop, if need be. He could possibly even take over this year if Johnny s**t's the bed. Personally I don't see anything special in Kubitza and could be a nice piece in a trade.
  18. My Off-season Plans (In Order): 1. Health - Check 2. Left field - 3. Front-end Type Starting pitcher - 4. 3rd Baseman - Check 5. Trade Additional Starting Pitching - 6. Power Bullpen Arm/Solid Lefty - 7. Shortstop - Check 8. Farm - 9. Bench - Check 10. Second Base - So far the off-season is looking a little incomplete. I could have thrown a few more categories in there but these are the most important ones I could think of for THIS off-season. A few of these moves still have/need time too develop. IMO, the draft is going to encourage a lot of fans and a few trades can always be brewing. Some of these moves are easier than others but I see a lot of unchecked boxes but the ones we did check, are very solid players. Personally, we should give Johnny another season to lose the position. He isn't necessarily an all-star but we also have bigger holes to fix. If something comes to fruition, then so be it but Johnny has more to prove IMO.
  19. MLB network was just talking about the Padres and I hadn't even really thought about them too much. They could be an interesting sign-n-trade partner. Possibly swap some pitching for pitching? Maybe a Cashner, Fowler and Thayer/Kelley for Santiago, Bedrosian and a prospect(s) trade?
  20. ....Maybe it was cryptography for the Front Office to read? We're forgetting that hindsight is 20/20. You can't say everyone knew he would totally collapse here. You can say you knew he wouldn't be productive but not that he would turn into the Tampa Bay Hamilton. Arte put way too much faith in Josh being an "professional athlete". The man did nothing but throw it in everyone's face that he was a man of god, that he had a strong family unit and that he was an exemplar role model for all those you cared to paid attention. Remember, at one point someone was going to make a movie about the guys life! Arte really wanted to stick one to Texas IMO for all of those years they plucked our cast-offs and made them productive again. It obviously didn't work out as planned.
  21. I actually still didn't thank everyone. Thanks guys. I just felt Dexter Fowler would be the best choice for the team in LF. The only major knock on Dexter is can he can't stay on the field right? We don't need him too carry us for 162 games but if he gives us 140+, it keeps him healthy and leaves more opportunity for the other guys to contribute. I'm sure I come off as angry (I am) and I should take my time more often, especially when I know people will read it but not coke. I might prescript to THC products but not the abuse of my nastrals. I actually just quit smoking cigarettes cold turkey a few months ago.
  22. I knew I should have left in the part were I thanked everyone for giving me a place too rant.
  23. The only thing that has to happen, is for all of us to vote Bernie Sanders for President. As for the Angels, we MUST/ have to trade for Manny Machado. We don't need our heads in the clouds for change and improvement to occur in either case. I say we get creative though and eventually sign Dexter Fowler. I like too think that if he didn't have a draft pick attached, we would have already signed him. The Front Office has done an excellent job of working within a budget and has covered major needs for this team. Escobar and Fowler alone would change the entire landscape of the offense, just by batting in front of Trout IMO. We've gone through our own trials and tribulations but If we still let money hold us back, its gonna be another long YEAR! I think we're creative enough too fix the Pen, the Bench and the Farm, from what we Currently already have from within our Organization. What we don't have is a consistent LF/OF. We want someone we don't have to worry about, someone who is going too let us finally focus on more pressing needs like The Farm System and being able too locking up our current talent. 1-9 doesn't have too be comprised of an all-star team, just teammates doing doing their job and not letting outside forces dictate what They/You do. I'm just saying this Team/Fan base doesn't demand another League Superstar but we also don't deserve a bunch of replaceable journeyman.
  24. I know some will say they don't want too trade within the division but how about a sign and trade with Oakland. We have to facilitate this through a team with a protected pick. I'm more inclined too keep Wilson and trade Hector though. So the question is what does Hector and Bedrosian get us from Oakland? This depends on our negotiating skills but my thought was Fowler, Hendriks, Jed Lowrie and Zep for Santiago, Bedrosian and Prospect? Too make the trade more palpable, we take on all the remaining salary of the players returning and go over the threshold.
  25. Now that the Chapman Debacle is coming to an end, maybe we pursue a deal centered around Hector Santiago and Andrew Miller.
