So how many contenders have 3 or 4 pitchers with sub 2.5 ERAs?
You know there is more to it than that. His xERA is 4.61.

Regardless of how good Anderson is pitching, he's still a number 4/5 starter at best on a contending team. You're not throwing him out there in the playoffs and feeling great about it. A small loss of control and he's a homerun derby pitcher. You absolutely shop him but the Angels won't be blown away by the return.
-
I bet it's the back given his issues last year. Also looked like he was favoring it after. Off day tomorrow. Pray.

Bad luck on that Rengifo liner and Ward got screwed by the ump. Game over. This bullpen, on the road, good night everybody.
-
Front office is insuring this team stays bad by employing this bullpen. Feels almost by design.

Serious question:
In all other areas, people don’t seem to care what the team says. They only care what it does. So why, on this particular issue, do people seem to want to hear the Angels says the words “we’re rebuilding,” as opposed to just understanding from their actions that that is what they’re doing?
(And don’t give me examples from 2023. It’s pretty clear they changed direction once Ohtani left.)
Exactly. Sam Blum needs his head examined. It's obvious they are rebuilding. Painfully obvious. But why would Ron Washington (who wants his team to believe they can win) say hey "we expect to suck this year". It's so dumb and counterintuitive.

The moniak experience needs to end. He’s awful. If Pillar plays we probably win this game.

In Washington's defense, Angel Hernandez would called most of those strikes.
In Wash's defense, Ramos was missing with his slider down and had trouble throwing strikes but it wasn't like there was a flamethrower on the mound who's impossible to bunt off of.

Both things can be true: the team has a severe lack of talent and Washington makes terrible decisions.
The squeeze is obviously questionable, but Guillorme shouldnt give anyone great confidence with his bat. I dont think it was terrible have a guy who sucks at the plate and is a DP liability to lay a bunt down. His "terrible" decision making I just don't agree with. The players are making his decisions look terrible. The bullpen will have a decent run and then blow up at the worst time. They'll get good pitching from a starter and then the bats turn cold.
-
Cool it on the Wash slander. The guy is working his ass off with this group of bums. It is a terrible collection of talent and yet they are in almost every game. Until the talent shows up and loses in incredibly unfortunate fashion.

Feel bad for Washington? He's made millions in baseball and if he couldn't see what was on the roster when he took the job, that's his fault.
I like Wash, too. But he's been in baseball long enough to know the deal.
And he clearly knows the deal if you read between the lines. He was brought here to rebuild in the post Ohtani era.

Feels like we never win day games at Angel stadium.

Adell with another hard hit ball

Did he ditch that?
They said he’s not using it against guys that throw hard.

I trust Wash. Ultimately, the bases were loaded and the bums couldn’t come through. There is going to be some feel to Wash’s managing rather than a straight analytical approach. He’s building a culture.

I think it's time to sit Trout and tell him it's time to get his shit together. Bases loaded with two outs is no time to play umpire on borderline pitches, foul that shit off.
He does that in every big moment. The pitch doesn’t have to be perfect, Mike. Just get a god damn hit.
-
Spare me the poor Trout bullshit. That was a pathetic at bat with the game on the line to stop a losing skid. Just staring at strikes.

Another quality start wasted.

I've lost full confidence in Wash because of this one. I really appreciate the way Wash has emphasized defense, situational hitting, and baserunning, but if you aren't going to play the best players -- get the fuck out.
Hicks was below average against RHP even in his prime. He is fully washed up -- the Yankees paid him ~$30mm to not play for them. Hicks playing against RHP, and hitting leadoff, is flat out fucking ridiculous.
This way more on the front office than it is on Wash. Hicks shouldnt be on the team.
-
Before the season, this would have been expected and no one knew what Rendon would contribute. Now that he stepped up at the leadoff spot when we clearly have no one useful to fill that role and is playing good defense, this hurts big time. Our only hope to compete this season is if Detmers/Anderson are actually the guys they have been in April. Canning settles in. Soriano takes another step and Sandoval is just an innings eater piece of garbage that labors through 5 innings. Oh and someone in our system needs to give the Bullpen a boost.
-
The combo of Adell, Moniak and Hicks is becoming bizarre.
-
Brutal loss, but historically, we lose 3/4 here. I like the direction. But the personal is clearly lacking. There had to be a better veteran than Hicks available. He is so bad.
-
What Perry has managed to do to this bullpen. What a disaster.

To trade or not to trade?

With Rada in the system and Adell looking like an everyday player, Ward is probably gone.
