  1. I don't believe the Dodgers have as many craft breweries as Angels Stadium does?  And like I said, a big part has to do with money that the breweries have to pay to be served in the stadium.  Also, breweries such as Noble do not produce enough beer at this time to even be able to think about trying to get into the stadium.

And everyone has different tastes in beer.

    : )

The Dodgers carry about the same but they have a better selection of styles. The Angels stay away from the stronger beers for a reason, a family environment. Of course supply and demand plays a part but it isnt like Angel City, Golden Road, Stone or ballast Point are just too far away to get in the stadium. All of them can handle it.

  2. San Francisco and San Diego both have a lot more craft breweries than Orange County, so they've had the presence in their stadiums for a longer time.  It def has to do with distributors and contracts.  It costs a big chunk of change to get your beer in the stadium, many smaller breweries can't afford that kind of money.

The Dodgers carry local craft breweries, they dont have to be from the OC. The problem isnt a lack of breweries or their ability to meet the demand of a sporting event, its has more to do with the Angels focus on a family experience and they are focused on how to improve that experience. Therefore they will continue to be followers in regards to beer sales and not leaders.

Goose Island IPA sucks. We have never had their barrel aged beers out this way so I will hold off on knocking the brewery totally.

  3. They have signs for Bootlegger, never have seen their beer there though.

They have their palomino pale ale. They have so many local breweries they could be tapping into in order to make a unique experience yet they fail. maybe it has to do with the contract they have with companies to bring in beer but I doubt that since Petco and SF both have great selections.

  4. Bell's Brewery is looking at expanding distro and California is being highly considered. Hope this comes to fruition in the near future, love their brews. Troegs and Bell's are two that need to move out here.

On another note, for anyone in the LA area, Drakes Aroma Coma and Prieta will be on tap Thursday at Select Beer Store in Redondo. I am sure Coma will end up at quite a few places but I am hearing Prieta is still a much smaller batch than Coma.

  5. This is just plain great.  It's teachers like you that make a huge difference in our kids.  Thanks for making this effort.  This country is relatively young but its got some great history with amazing contributions by its citizens.  I worry that World War II vets' sacrifices will be forgotten as they pass away.  And what this country went through, and how we can still learn from it should never be forgotten.

The history will be preserved from the WWII generation. Historians have made a conscious effort to do so but it takes teachers like halomatt to make history meaningful and tangible to their students in order to truly make the preservation worthwhile.

  6. Another LA institution has announced it is closing as of Sunday. Great job by the new owners, remodel, raise prices, reduce portion size and within months you are out of business. Some things are what they are and shouldnt try to be more than it is. Hopefully Angelenos will step in and save this property. It is one of the few places that pours an acceptable Guiness and serves traditional Irish dishes done well.

  7. DR, Thats awesome man. Pickett is a very interesting man. He is studied somewhat but probably deserves a bit more. Does your family have anything from him? Pics, diary, uniforms, etc. Guessing not but it is pretty amazing to hear stories about what family members still own. I dealt with this researching my thesis which led me to a little house in Redondo searching through the garage of my research topics great grandson.

  8. Does anyone know if they still do the reenactment at Fort Tejon? And has anyone ever gone to see it?

I believe they still do reenactments. I went years ago and thought it was a bit of a waste of time to be honest. Probably had just read the Confederate in the Attic for the first time though and wanted much more.

  9. Burnside, Stuart and Ames are my top 3.

I get to spend a couple weeks there for grad school to do research. Looking forward to it and doing some archaeological work as well. It will be my fifth time there and one of my favorite places although I prefer Shiloh.
