  1. He may not be special but he's on the team. I would hope that Scioscia would tell even Josh Wall he was going down to the minors before telling the media. It's about respect, if you don't understand that then you don't understand people at all. I have no idea what you do for a living but I can tell you that if they changed my job on me I'd like to be told before they just change my schedule.

scioscia said he was sticking with freiri as closer to the media.  if he changes his closer on friday then he basically lied to the media, to the fans, and to frieri himself.  lying is not very respectful.

i personally think its better to be honest than to lie and then later tell the player the opposite of what you said to the media.  playing mind games is not helpful.  instead scioscia can say "i'll talk to my people, and see what's best for the team before i make any rash decisions."

  2. I think Fletcher answered this perfectly in the other thread. You think Mike, ten minutes after the game, before talking to the player, should tell the media that he's making a change? These moves aren't made in a vacuum. Frieri will still be on the team so you have to treat him with some kind of respect.

Like I said in that same thread, if Frieri is still the closer I will firmly be in the Scioscia needs to go camp.

talking to the player?  you act like frieri is mariano rivera or something.  frieri is nothing but a pitcher from the scrap heap masquerading as a closer because dipoto wants to prove to everyone he's a good GM.

such a decision can be made 10 min after the game.   frieri is not that special.

  3. What I don't understand is how Frieri has not yet developed a good change up. Trevor Hoffman made a career with a Fastball and a Change up, and that was pretty much it.

he was working on one in spring training.  he stopped using it completely though.

i think the issue is his pitching mechanics, the hitters can tell when he's going to throw something other than a fastball, so he just throws nothing but fastballs - a pitch he cant even locate well.

  4. I've always hated how teams live or die in the 9th by their "closer". If the guy doesn't have it, get him the hell out of there.

It isn't just something MS does, most managers do the same thing. It's dumb.

name these managers that also do it.  stop being vague.

scioscia is too loyal to his players and too caught up in his formula to ever change his approach at managing.

btw frieri's fastball is 1 mph less than last year which is a huge difference when the only pitch you have is a fastball.

  5. Freese should NEVER be at 3rd with the game on the line.

Everyone knows that but Scioscia. Frieri is the same story. Everyone knows it but the guy calling the shots.

freese should definitely always be replaced defensively in the 9th - an obvious managerial mistake and sticking with frieri for so long in the 9th inning was another one.  scioscia's dumb decision making has already cost this team at least 4 wins now.  im shocked people still defend him as a good manager.
