Do you ever remember him doing this before this year? No, why because this is a compromise between him and Dipoto.
yes he did do it a lot prior to this year especially to lefties.
-
iannetta moves his glove to much when he catches the ball. its hard to sell any close pitches to the ump like that.
-
weaver still seems pissed in this inning.
-
No because we know that Scioscia doesn't believe in advanced defensive metrics. I'm guessing Weaver is pissed off and venting.
yes he does, that's why he does the exaggerated shift.
-
weaver bad mouthing scioscia again?
-
can we just give the moy award to scioscia right now? every bunt play,, every lineup, every reliever brought in is just brilliant.
-
A free out (when the pitcher is struggling) and the opportunity to pitch around Trout? Nice gift.
Make them pay Albert.
questioning scioscia? he has them right where he wants them!
-
they doing the shift with the bases loaded still?
-
lol 0 for 22?
omg i didnt know that and scioscia is still starting him....best manager in baseball.
-
anyone know what's aybar's avg with 2 strikes on him?
-
aybar with 2 strikes is an auto out.
-
whats our record when conger starts vs iannetta?
-
If the game was still tied, he would have struck out on a slider down and away.
speaking the truth.
-
why would they pitch around trout?
-
good news is shuck is on base with no outs, bad news is that error earned him another 10 more starts at least.
-
the FO cant be serious about contending with iannetta being the main catcher going forward. i think iannetta is the main problem with the pitching staff not mike butcher.

You have CEO/management material written all over you.
you're right, being an honest person is not CEO material. i should lie all the time like scioscia than maybe i can be a manager.
-
He may not be special but he's on the team. I would hope that Scioscia would tell even Josh Wall he was going down to the minors before telling the media. It's about respect, if you don't understand that then you don't understand people at all. I have no idea what you do for a living but I can tell you that if they changed my job on me I'd like to be told before they just change my schedule.
scioscia said he was sticking with freiri as closer to the media. if he changes his closer on friday then he basically lied to the media, to the fans, and to frieri himself. lying is not very respectful.
i personally think its better to be honest than to lie and then later tell the player the opposite of what you said to the media. playing mind games is not helpful. instead scioscia can say "i'll talk to my people, and see what's best for the team before i make any rash decisions."
-
I think Fletcher answered this perfectly in the other thread. You think Mike, ten minutes after the game, before talking to the player, should tell the media that he's making a change? These moves aren't made in a vacuum. Frieri will still be on the team so you have to treat him with some kind of respect.
Like I said in that same thread, if Frieri is still the closer I will firmly be in the Scioscia needs to go camp.
talking to the player? you act like frieri is mariano rivera or something. frieri is nothing but a pitcher from the scrap heap masquerading as a closer because dipoto wants to prove to everyone he's a good GM.
such a decision can be made 10 min after the game. frieri is not that special.
-
What I don't understand is how Frieri has not yet developed a good change up. Trevor Hoffman made a career with a Fastball and a Change up, and that was pretty much it.
he was working on one in spring training. he stopped using it completely though.
i think the issue is his pitching mechanics, the hitters can tell when he's going to throw something other than a fastball, so he just throws nothing but fastballs - a pitch he cant even locate well.
-
I've always hated how teams live or die in the 9th by their "closer". If the guy doesn't have it, get him the hell out of there.
It isn't just something MS does, most managers do the same thing. It's dumb.
name these managers that also do it. stop being vague.
scioscia is too loyal to his players and too caught up in his formula to ever change his approach at managing.
btw frieri's fastball is 1 mph less than last year which is a huge difference when the only pitch you have is a fastball.
-
Freese should NEVER be at 3rd with the game on the line.
Everyone knows that but Scioscia. Frieri is the same story. Everyone knows it but the guy calling the shots.
freese should definitely always be replaced defensively in the 9th - an obvious managerial mistake and sticking with frieri for so long in the 9th inning was another one. scioscia's dumb decision making has already cost this team at least 4 wins now. im shocked people still defend him as a good manager.

Ernesto Frieri's last five outings: 3 2/3 innings, 12 hits, 6 runs, 2 homers, 6/2 SO/BB. Not long for the Angels' closer role.
#Angels mgr Mike Scioscia said he is not ready to make a change at closer now.
lol is scioscia waiting for the team to be 10 games out before making necessary changes.

looks like they are trying to pepper david freese's defense at 3b.
