  1. I'll always remember when Jim Cantore from the Weather Channel freaked out about thundersnow.
  2. Long term forecast is showing another AR (atmospheric river) event towards the end of next week for Central California. Could also affect SoCal. While these systems may seem great long term for our water issues, some have been so warm that they are actually melting the snowpack. That leads to the water running back into the ocean. I guess beggars can't be choosers. For a weather nerd like myself, I'm fascinated with how these systems develop.
  3. How in the fuck is Boll still on this team? With retention from the Stars Garbutt's hit is the same as Boll's at 900K. At least Garbutt can skate and ocassionally pitch in a goal.
  4. I sold out of most of my stocks and mutual funds yesterday. The underlying factors don't seem to indicate that this upturn has any legs. We are due for a recession based on market history. I'm the first person to say that you can't time the market, but something smells fishy. With that said, when there's blood in the streets, buy property (equities in this case). I'll be back in the market soon.
  5. Really? I can't stand Shaw. He's a dirtier, far less skilled Perry. So glad he's in the Eastern Conference... same goes for Weber.
  6. Hampus is skating with the team. Should be playing in the next game or two.
  7. I understand but if you're building a team, who would you pick: Casual Kev or Manson? A previous stupid move doesn't mean another stupid move will follow.
  8. I was trying to wrap my head around why Montour is exempt, and I just remembered what happened. He signed a PTO for the games he played in his "first" season that he played with the Admirals. So his ELC didn't actually kick in until last year, which means he's ineligible for the draft.
  9. http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showthread.php?t=2094201&highlight=expansion Take a look at this, GB. Lots of info here.
  10. Unfortunately. The NHL and/or the Players union can opt out of the CBA in 2020-2021. The $3.75M for that season is to hedge against a possible lockout.
  11. Probably for cap relief. Holzer only makes $700K, which is actually less than Theo's $863K cap hit.
  12. All of the defensive prospects (Theo, Montour, Larsson) as well as Ritchie are not eligible for the expansion draft. The wording is tricky, but fortunately those players aren't eligible to be drafted.
  13. LTIR is only effective for the amount of time the player is hurt. The team does get full cap relief, which would be $3.25M in Stoner's case, but once healthy, the Ducks would have to activate him. The LTIR is a short term bandaid; the Ducks will have to address it once Thompson has recovered from Achilles surgery and if, hopefully it's when, Despres recovers.
  14. Why in the world would LV want Bieksa? Do you think Vegas is going to want a player who's 35 year old defenseman who plays bottom pairing minutes and makes $4M a year? Or would they prefer a defenseman who is a decade younger and makes $825K?
  15. First off, they can ask Bieksa to waive hit NMC, which would allow the Ducks to use the spot on someone else. Bieksa won't be picked up when the Ducks have other players that LV would want. Second, I think the Ducks have to trade Fowler before the expansion draft. They won't be able to afford him after his current deal expires following next year. That allows the Ducks to protect three defensemen (Lindholm, Vats, and Manson) and seven forwards.
  16. http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/30-thought-ducks-lindholm-oilers-leafs-100-flames-gaudreau/ This is really starting to bother me. I've always thought the Bargain Bob moniker is lame, but he's really living up to it with these negotiations. In what world is Hampus less valuable than Risto, Rielly, and Jones? Just, FUCK! There is more discussion about the situation for anyone who is interested.
  17. Perron wanted to go back to STL. I agree with you on the Raymond and Bill signings, and I don't understand why they didn't try to keep Pirri. With that said, there is something strange with Pirri. The Ducks only gave up a late pick (6th rounder? If I remember correctly) for a 20 goal scorer. Then he signs late in the offseason for cheap, so there's something strange there. BM has definitely made some mistakes (Stoner and Bieksa in particular), but the positives outweigh the negatives in my mind.
  18. As upset I am with the offseason, BM has done pretty damn well with the constraints he has to deal with. My friend put the Ducks' budget in a perspective that I think is really interesting: the last few years they have been playing sans one, additional star player on their roster. THAT is bull shit, and part of the responsibility falls on Ducks fans. It's embarrassing to see how empty games are from time to time. Back to the point, the Ducks are still a playoff team while having a fairly deep prospect pool. I think firing BM would be a huge mistake.
  19. Looks like Ristolainen just signed for six years at $5.4M. Time for the Ducks to sign Hampus at $5.75M and call it a day.
  20. They signed Lovejoy in the offseason: Despres for Lovejoy. And the world goes round and round. No, I'm not serious.
  21. Roy and Welinski were Ducks draft picks from a few years back who have been playing college hockey. The major reason why Roy isn't in the league is because of his size. You could see last night how skilled he is. What's funny is there were some Ducks fans who were worried that those two would pull a Shultz on us. As for Tokarski, he was great last night. I was pleasantly surprised as the word on him is that he's a mediocre goalie, even for AHL standards. I think the Gulls will be fun to watch this year. Looks like a lot of skill has been added compared to last year.
  22. 950k of cap space if he clears and is sent to SD.
