We can only hope for the 2013 Nibs and 2012 Pujols to resurface.
How about the 2011 versions of both?
-
Besides Pujols, do we have anyone else better? Calhoun is 27, Pujols is 50. Id say if Calhoun isnt our 2nd best player next year were in trouble.
What about Hamiltown?
-
Tell me a player over the last 25 years you are 100% sure they're not guilty of a illegal performance enhance substance?
Jeff Mathis
-
Bryan Harvey?
That was my guess.
As an Angel he pitched 307 innings with a 2.49 ERA
Overall he pitched 387 innings with a 2.49 ERA
-
He was a non-factor in the playoffs offensively and defensively for them.
Sounds like a HOF player to me!
BTW, Pete Rose belongs. It's the one decision I don't understand at all.
Should OJ give the Heisman back?
-
Who are you referring to?
Richards. He made a huge stride last year but he wasn't even close to that same pitcher the year before.
-
Anybody seen his numbers from last year?
I didn't think it was possible to hit 23 HR's and have a .380 slugging percentage. His OPS was .690 !
Vernon Wells
-
A lot to expect from a rookie, a guy that was injured and didn't do too much even before then, and an aging veteran.
-
Shields has been better than Weaver the last two years.
We need to stop paying for PAST performance.
-
Sadly there was probably a time when he could do that hitting right handed.
Maybe he should try it!
-
.260, 18 HR, 66 RBI

"So the bullpen is a problem waiting to be solved. You could argue about the depth charts, but the point is that the Angels will be giving a lot of bullpen innings to relievers who aren't quite as good as last year's stable."
That's news to me.
He comes to the conclusion by comparing 2014 fWAR of 3.7 to projected 2015 fWAR of 0.2 . That's tied with the Nationals for largest difference of any team. My question is... how accurate are the fWAR projections?

I like the idea of letting a 38 year old reliever hit the market. Good luck to him.
We were stupid to let Darren Oliver go. I hope this turns out better.
-
I dunno. Angels pen was pretty horrible two years ago. Grilli was a big reason it turned around. Street is the other. It could go to crap again just as quickly.
-
kemp probably. Second half last year aside, hes been more hype than anything the last few years. But if upton sucks, no worry, hes gone after this year
Yes, and Hamilton will be gone soon enough as well. It would be good if he did something during his tenure here, though.
If Upton performs and they lose him that's not really a good trade unless they win it all this year (unlikely) and if he doesn't then it is an even worse trade.

Championship is secured!
-
Im really not sure which of these im finding more surprising at this point between the Padres bringing in everything in sight or the As dumping seemingly their entire 25 man roster.
History says bet on the A's - unless it is in the playoffs.
-
I think Kemp and Upton are going to work out for San Diego like Pujols and Hamilton did for us.
-
We weren't better off getting nothing but paying a ton of his salary either.
I'd rather take the chance of production and paying someone than no chance of production and paying someone.
Although, this whole thread is a joke and click bait by Rosenthal. He titles about trading for clicks then the whole article is how he is staying. Just ridiculous journalism.
No, it was better to get rid of Wells and pay him for nothing. He was blocking development of younger players. Hamilton is not quite there yet, but it is on the horizon.
-
I can't believe this thread has gone on this long. There is 0 value in eating that much money for any player.
You're return would be shit and you'd owe money to someone not even contributing.
We were not better off trotting out Vernon Wells' corpse every night.
-
Why not give him one more year, if he sucks again, then dump him.
If he sucks again no one will take him. Best situation is for him to bounce back and then we get rid of him.

Tank's solution:
Create a base salary system, where your base salary is determined by years of play.
* first year base - 500k
* second year base - 750k
* third year base - 1m
etc.
then load it up with incentives.
bonus money for each RBI, HR, double, run scored, sac fly, walk
bonus money for fielding pct, number of errors, DPs turned
bonus money for pitchers for each win, save, K, shutout, complete game
bonus money for getting MVP, cy young, ROY, sliver slugger, gold glove
bonus money for getting votes for each of those awards
bonus money for making the all star team
more bonus money for team wins, making the playoffs, advancing in the playoffs, getting into the world series, team era, team winning percentage, etc.
having team incentives can help make sure that players are focused as much on how the team does as how they do personally.
i have no set amount on what the bonus money should be, but that can be negotiated with the players union so that your better players are earning more. it's all performance based and should eliminate silly contracts like albert and hamilton have.
I like this idea but what if a guy gets injured? What if the coaches don't play him in certain situations to save $$$?

Sorry guys,
I know they aren't playing for the Angels, but I just have to say the Marlins are awesome for sending a couple players out to the desert to hang with the troops. Did you know the Marlins have cheerleaders too?! Anyways, got to meet Preston Wilson, who I didn't realize was still playing, Justin Bour, and Chris Hatcher, who was just traded to the Dodgers in the Dee Gordon/Howie Kendrick trade earlier. (See how I tied it all in to the Angels?!) I asked Hatcher how it felt to be a Dodger, and he said he was just told when he got off the plane a few hours ago, so he hasn't really been able to soak it in. That's all I got for insider news, I'm drunk off of 3 drinks (been up 26 hours), and I'm going to bed! Cheers!
P.S.---How do I upload pictures onto here?!
Where in the desert?

the current team is better than the one that started the 2014 season.
I actually don't think Dipoto intended to trade howie. I think the opportunity to get Heaney came out of nowhere and he couldn't pass it up.
Howie has been on the block for some time now.
