  1. I love the optimism, however there are dozens of different reasons why one wouldn't have high hopes. I have honestly been phoning it in with the Angels for about the last month and a half. I don't bother to watch the games anymore because at the end of the day the box score tells me all I needed to know and realizes my worst fears.

Would I love to see them surge and make a amazing run at it? Sure, I would.

Do I believe in my heart of hearts it will happen? Not a chance in hell.

  2. Get over it. Black males changed the shape of American sports forever, achievements before they were accepted are respectable, but not comparable to achievements now (and during the late 60s and above after segregation).

According to every record book I've checked, the record is 73 home runs by Barry Bonds. Again..get over it.

And I understand that. But every time someone says oh well there weren't any colored people, they make it sound as if they simply played scrubs all day, and season long. That's where my problem lies. Of course you can't compare a season over 50+years and call it the same. Bats were different, shoes, pants and a bunch  of other things that could have helped either way.  And yes that is the all time record. No one is honestly denying that.

61 is the current record for the AL. So considering I root for an American League team, that one resonates with me just a little bit more.

  3. red sox show up on pg 96????????????????

the guy that authored the report was on the red sox board of directors at the same time!!!!!!!

    Yes, they do.

Please explain to me the conspiracy theory. Most of the reports that were never made into suspensions or anything else, were because of the incompetence of the league and the shitty way the MLBPA likes to get in the way instead of helping.

"The Angels aren't mentioned because the team doesn't take steroids. If it did they would be right up with the A's and Rangers. However, if the A's and Rangers are allowed to take it then we should force our players to take it as well."

You can still be a shitty player and take steroids you know. It doesn't automatically make you hit a curveball or make you take more pitches. It allows your endurance to be lengthened, you can become stronger and etc.

Yeah right. Troy Glaus was under suspicion for having PED's and supplements sent to him in the mail during his 2003-2004 seasons as of a result of his injuries. He would eventually tell federal agents he took the PED's to help himself heal. He never did any time, or got fined. So please tell me about how squeaky clean the Angels are compared to everyone else. Just because the team is named the Angels, doesn't mean the halo isn't possibly being held up by horns.

You don't need to be smashing balls out of the park to be on steroids. Steroids are steroids no matter how they are used.

  4. Probably the dumbest thing I've ever read on this site. Basically you're saying a majority of fans would not even be on this site if it wasn't for those 3, and that's BS.

    Fan_Since79:

Refreshing to have a fan of the game hold a stance practically along the lines of "no-tolerance." Gotta be honest, I feel the same way.

Look at Manny. Give an inch of lax after they break the rules, they do the time, then sign multi-million dollar contrack before they come back and break the rules again. They "retire" for fun to cut down on 100 game suspensions, then come back AGAIN because they're still not banned. 3 years suspension keeps them from dancing around "retirement" and whatever number of games they can't play, and gives them some real time to think about what they've done. I have no problem with that.

You have to question the teams that pick up these players as well. I mean seriously he messed up how many times and he is still around. Lord help us.

  5. Or it will motivate some teams to hide things.  See Mitchell Report.  No Red Sox ever used.

    B. Steroids Found in Boston Red Sox Player’s Car, June 2000 On June 30, 2000, a clubhouse employee of the Boston Red Sox, Carlos Cowart, and a friend of his were sitting in Manny Alexander’s parked sports utility vehicle when they were approached by Massachusetts state police officers.

During a search of the vehicle, police discovered two hypodermic needles and a bottle of anabolic steroids in the glove compartment. At least one news report stated that the steroids were in an envelope addressed to Alexander, although we were not able to confirm that assertion.

On Page 96 of the Mitchell Report. Negotiations took to long and the urine test too long to administer therefore of course he wouldn't show up positive. MLB doesn't take it serious enough and neither does the MLBPA.

This is incredibly asinine that they would allow all these people to play the All-Star than actually make an example of them and show them they mean business. I don't even care about the whole Biogenesis list. It won't mean shit honestly. The MLBPA will just tear through it with all their appeals and it will be long forgotten.

  6. This might be homerism but if HARPER is in it why not Trout? It's not like Harper is a home run hitting machine. That pick was stupid.

I definitely agree putting out the elite outfielders out there would definitely add some awesome energy. Like perhaps they get to choose who they rob from? Torri for Trout, Trout to Fielder and etc. Now that would be worth watching.

  7. So give the reason for teams to cover up so they don't get fined.  Check.  Unless you really believe no Red Sox has ever used PED's.

First sentence spot on. Second sentence, give me a break. When testing began in 2000's over 5% of players in MLB tested positive. That was when the testing was literally a joke, even more so than now.

Please stop pretending like only Yankees, Red Sox and the A's had people who used some kind of PED's. It spans ALL across baseball. No matter what team they play for, or what age they are the players have to be held accountable period.

Did anyone else actually read the Mitchell report? That thing is hundreds of pages long describe vivid accounts of players being caught with PED's. Not just potentially failed tests, but actual proof.

The simplest albeit the harder solution to this would be the removal of money and statistics. If it were possible to have almost no guaranteed money as in football when you do fail a test the solution is to cut all ties. Then all statistics go out the window. You take away the two things most players want. Fame and money.

Not that the MLBPA would allow that to happen, but that would curb the habit.

It is true that Bonds, Sosa and all of them did bring baseball back to life after the strike. This is why I don't think baseball would even try to get this serious about PED's. They don't want to risk another strike.

  8. Napoli has that fire in him. The fire the Angels lost 'till present as soon as they let him go.

I never had a problem with him hitting .250 and catching here.

Thing is he pushes the envelope when playing the Angels out of pure spite. While being on strong teams like Tex or Bos. They feed his confidence like the Angels never could.

I'm starting to see that a lot at Angel Stadium. Nothing at those fence boundaries explicitly states that going to grab a ball over there is against stadium policy, but those rails at the bottom of the CF greenery are obviously not there to save a human in case they fall. I'm sure those fans get ejected from the stadium, but if there's nothing there saying they will be ejected, who knows for sure. I wish Angels stadium was not so hard nosed, where they can run out there to get the ball, but I know how the park is run so I doubt the fans get away with it. They most likely get the ball taken away from them then are escorted from the park.

I've always wondered why they don't allow people to run there to get it. Similar with the left field area with grass. I mean the Rangers don't do anything about that one ball hawker that goes for the ball everytime in that center field area do they? I would definitely go to more games knowing I had at least a fighting chance lol.

  9. I don't blame anybody if they did hate Lackey or they didn't. There are some players you will just hate after they leave because it leaves a bad taste in your mouth, like how Lackey left. And some like Torri who left and it didn't hurt too much.

For example, I enjoyed Papelbon while he was our jackass, but now I can't barely stand to hear his name let alone this......

  10. Friday night will be antique Boston Red Sox hat night.  Right now I'm sure the Chowd fans are busy driving over their hats, adding hamburger stains to them, and bleaching them out.  It's real important to look like you've been a Chowd fan for 100 years, even though you might be only 25.

I would resent that, except I'm not like that :P and I'm sure there are fans that are like that. Just like the Angel fans that are "super fan" all over you if started to like the team post 2002. I've only been a fans since 2000. So it really hasn't been all that long.
