Perry's contract is crap. Ducks aren't going to buy him out. The closer it gets to the end, the easier it will be to unload him. And, you never know. He could be better when he comes back. Kesler has been worse. But I think Perry is far enough down that he's more likely to get better than worse.
Kesler is still wait and see (well, I haven't totally given up on him yet... yet). But, it can't be seen positively.

I wouldn't fire Randy either if I was Bob. What's the point. Fix what you can on the team. Ride the big contracts out a ways. Keep an eye out for a better coach. I don't know how well Bob will be able to make it work. But it's the direction that makes the most sense.
And if it's the coaching that's making us tank, I guess we'll have a better shot at Hughes ( In case someone hasn't noticed, we're a lot closer to the worst record in hockey than we are to third place in the division.)

The problem with your plan is they would keep the same GM. Murray has probably capped out, reached his ceiling on what he is capable of putting together. A rebuild with him would probably just get you more of what we've had the last 8-10 years.

Speaking of change. Has anyone else come to the conclusion that 'playing faster' has been given up on. Cuz, I'm not seeing even much of an effort to go there. Are we back to the same old Randy and Bob style hockey. You know, the way they played back in the day when there were real hockey players.

Yeah, I agree with you. I think Randy (or at least coaching) is part of the problem. How big a part I'm not sure. But, I do think BM and the Samueli's are also holding the team back when it gets to the playoffs.

I know some people think this Aberg thing is a good deal. But, I think long term it's a potential disaster. It will just embolden Murray to continue on doing his dumpster dive approach.
There's two guys with their jerseys in the rafters and neither was a dumpster dive. You have to get the talent somehow. Doesn't look like a top 3 pick is in our near future. So, you either have to be able to make big trades or sign the rare free agent who's going to live up to the cost of his contract. I haven't seen Murray's ability to do that.

Just take the million dollars from one dumpster dive and add it to the $5M Silferberg thinks he should get each year.
You can get a pretty decent scorer for $6M.

The problem with a goalie like Gibson (especially backed up by a Miller) is they can not only take you to greatness, they can also keep you in mediocrity.

He's a guy who can fight well. I think that's important to Bob and Randy. 
I personally think that we could get another team to take this contract at some point as a reclamation project. It's not the money risk that bothers me.
The guy is just stupid. He takes some of the dumbest penalties at the worst possible times. I don't like just having him on the team.
Not to mention, if he's on the team, somebody else isn't. And I don't think that somebody will be one of the AHL caliber retreads we're running out there. It will be one of the rookies - all of which I would rather see on the ice than Big Stupid.

There is nothing I’ve seen so far (today and preseason) that makes me think that Comtois couldn’t play as well in the NHL as Fowler did to start.

Expectations. I thought we were going to fall apart and lose 6-1. We have three rookies starting and how many guys that have basically never made it playing in the NHL . Yeah, I’m happy so far.
But Schenn. I watched only him for a shift in the early part of the second period. That was seriously Bieska brutal. I just hope he had a bad shift.

Bob is having a field day this year - at his dumpster diving best. And, before anyone tells me that some of his signings are good moves, I want to reiterate that that’s not the point. The point is this guy patterns. Going forward as GM (however long that lasts), this is what you’re always going to get from this guy. Not the big trade that brings someone like Karllson in. Nope, this guy spends his waking hours trying to figure out how to get something for nothing. He would make a great assistant GM. You might even be able to win a Stanley Cup with him there. He’s too flawed to be a Stanley Cup winning GM though. His only hope is to get lucky and catch lightning in a bottle. Good luck with that. Good, but probably never good enough - that’s Bob.
Oh,and while I’m ranting, look at the helpless Kings. They have a GM that brings them two Stanley Cups and what do they do? Kick him to the curb. Probably because those guys are so easy to come by. How’s that working out for them? Five years from now, they’ll still be trying to make their better move work.

The problem with your logic is that the Shea Theadore of the Knights is not the Shea Theadore of the Ducks. We don’t get the Knights Theadore to trade with. We get the Theadore who RC buries and gets labeled as a bust to trade with. Not the same guy.

Actually, I think he can and will play better. But he’s not quick enough mentally to play the fast type of hockey BM says they’re going to. Then again, I think BM may not be as serious about the transition as he talks Just this years fad. At least his approach to it at this point.
In the long run, with the crack down on dangerous behavior, I see hockey going faster. I think these old style guys are going to get moved out.
As far as the season, I agree with you. I think they’re writing this one off. Another year off Perry’s contract and the off chance he has a good enough season to unload the last two years without getting killed. A year to evaluate where we are with Kessler and glassman. A chance to see if Randy can possibly change (haha).  And so on. I’m not saying we won’t make the playoffs. I just don’t think it a priority this season.
Another point to make. San Jose and the Kings have contracts structured to win now. They don’t look as good each successive season. Next year isn’t such a bad year to bail on.
