  1. Can both options be levied on Hamilton? Give him 30-60 days rehab and then subsequently suspend him 25,50 games, or the season? My take is he needs rehab and help, but should also suffer the consequences of his transgressions with a suspension of at least 50 games. He should use the time away from the game to get his personal/family life in order during the suspension. Doing cocaine is not taking care of your body and detrimental to the team. He won no points IMO by admitting to it prior to a test. He knew it would be positive, how is that any better?

  2. signing bonuses are attributed pro rata over the number of guaranteed years of a contract.  It makes no mention of when and how they are paid out.  If the agreed extension is to start in 2015 then they will just wait to sign it until after opening day.  It does not appear that the signing bonus would count for this year's CBT number even if it's paid out this year.  It's still pro rated over the number of guaranteed years.

The article just stated they don't have to wait until opening day to sign it, if the extension begins in 2015.

  3. His girlfriend and eventual wife is a school teacher in Jersey where they first met years ago.

That said, she absolutely loves So. California. As does Mike Trout.

I'm down with 6 years 150 million (or more, in both years and $$$), but if it's the alleged offer I hope it doesn't kick in until 2015.

+1, this. If it doesn't start until 2015, then we have bought out 3 years of FA correct? I'm definitely happy with that scenario. Pay him 1-2 million this year, announce extension after season starts, with signing bonus starting in 2015.

  4. So besides not hitting for more power and getting on base more, they were equal? That doesn't make any sense considering getting on base and hitting for power are the 2 most important things as a hitter.

Young was an above average hitter and piss poor defender in his career. He had a totally fine career but he's nowhere near HOF worthy. His career wRC+ of 104, which accounts for park factors and the league factors, says he was 4% better than the league average hitter in his career. Factor that in with his defense and you're looking at an above average player, nothing more.

Meanwhile, Berkman put up a 144 wRC+, got on base above a .400 clip and slugged .537. He's the 2nd best switch hitter of all time, posting better offensive numbers than Chipper Jones. I'm on the fence with Berkman making it but he has a WAY more deserving case than Young and it's really not close.

+1, agree it's not close, and yes Berkman was a Killer "B" played with Bags/Biggio 6 and 7 years respectively.

  5. First of all, it is useful for me to point out that I'm a Texas Ranger fan and have been since they moved to Texas in 1971.

But, more importantly, I'm not a troll. For the most part, I enjoy reading Angelswin because there are some genuinely funny comments on here. If I had wanted to be a troll and stir up trouble, I would have done so long before now.

However, I have to make a "hypocrite'' call after reading a lot of recent postings concerning Matt Garza.

I may be wrong, but it seems as if the majority of posters would love to get Matt Garza for the Angels' rotation.

This, however, is in direct conflict with the "Garza fits right in with the Rangers'' thread which appeared on Aug. 3. The vitriol aimed at him then was remarkable.

In other words, you couldn't stand him then, but you love him now? What's changed? Oh, maybe it's because he was on the Rangers?

Same thing applies to Josh Hamilton. Most posters here couldn't stand him when he was with the Rangers, but when the Angels signed him, you were ecstatic the Angels' front office stabbed the Rangers in the eye.

And as far as Garza is concerned, I believe he showed his true value last summer with Texas. He's not a No. 3 starter and he may not even be a No. 4.

More than likely, I won't post here again, but I felt the need to point out the obivious hypocrisy in some of the threads on this site.

Dude, really?? It's called supporting your team. Personally I don't care who plays for our team as long as they play hard to win. I will admit I was one who thought CJ was a real "D-bag" before he came here. Do I cheer for him now, sure. I personally hope we do not sign Garza. It's not just the money, but I think there are injury concerns with him. I don't think he is the same pitcher from a couple of years ago and not worth the risk.

  6. The last four seasons the Angels have been at or below the pantherian standings...  He used to be a good manager, now he just sucks.

I love how people on this forum acknowledge that players can carry the same abilities for 20+ years.

Does anyone in here research s$%t before they post? Last year was the first year since 2003 the Angels did not outperform their Pythagorean expectation. Not to make this an I hate Scioscia or not thread, but if we cut him loose he would last about 10 seconds on the open market...that's how respected he is in the game. Honestly I can't think of anyone available that I would want to replace him, maybe LaRussa, but he has no desire to return to the field, maybe front office.
