Byrd had a nice year in his only season with the club in 2005. I remember him, also had a funny windup before he delieved a pitch. One of the few Angels free agent signings that went right it seems.
A couple of generations before just about all the pitchers used Byrd’s pump handle wind-up.

I’ll go on record that I think limiting his innings In season one would be a great idea based on the fact the game/schedule is different here. My understand of the Japanese schedule is they have every Monday off and play the other six days. So in essence he would pitch the same day each week. Here in the states he could pitch three times in ten or eleven days.
Japanese import pitchers like Dice K, Tanaka, and I believe Yu Darvish had arm problems so the extra innings pitched might have contributed.

The Angels have to address 2b at least, whether they get Stanton or not.

Has anyone said that Albert is going to be strictly a DH from here on out?

I think the Angels have the right hire in Eppler and his recommendations will give us the best possible team.

Think about it: one of the biggest holes in the lineup has been 3B, or at least it has been mediocre since Chone left after 2009. Donaldson is already 32, but in his last year of arbitration and the Blue Jays might want to trade him now. The guy is great. He had an "off year" in 2017, and still hit .270/.385/.559 with 33 HR and 5.0 fWAR. In fact, according to fWAR he's been the second best player in baseball since he became a regular in 2013 - and he's about as far from the pack as he is behind Trout.
The concern is that he really could be a one-year rental, and probably an expensive one. It is also hard to get excited about signing a mega-contract to a 33-year old, but maybe he'll take 3-4 years. The Angels would probably have to start with Jahmai Jones and add a Jaime Barria. But imagine they also trade for Cesar Hernandez...
2B Cesar Hernandez
CF Mike Trout
LF Justin Upton
3B Josh Donaldson
RF Kole Calhoun
DH Albert Pujols
SS Andrelton Simmons
1B Cron/Valbuena
C Martin Maldonado
That's one nasty lineup.
I’m tickled pink that Upton is in place to fix LF for the foreseeable future. I have been reading on Twitter the past couple of days that the Angels are interested in Ian Kinsler at 2B. Haven’t read anything about 3B plans they might have. Of course Kinsler is over 35 so he’s just a temporary solution.

I used that board 15 years and there were definitely a few people who had an agenda, even if it was just their own sense of self-importance. My only regret about it’s closing is that a few didn’t find their way here.

Not meaning to pick but career defining? He is like 40 years old. Is this specific offseason really that unique?
Kinda depends on what he does. The Yankee teams of the 70’s traded for impact players who could contribute right away and won pennants in 76,81, and World Series in 77 and 78. I hope Eppler doesn’t go too far because I want balance and fan appeal but this approach has been taken before.

I think that this is an important offseason. Equally so next year.
Eppler has to resign Mike Trout.
I’ll say it has been a productive preaseason so far for the Angels. Upton alone fills a big hole in the outfield. Then previously they get a gold glove shortstop and a gold glove catcher. Maybe this is the latest trend to take on contracts at the end of the year. I’d still like to see the Angels make up their minds on Cron or Cowart, or move on.

They need a second baseman.

What about Portland?
I was just looking at the existing teams for now. It’s hard for me to see Portland added because their market has to be one of the smaller ones compared to some others.

Why aren't the FUCK'N Astros in the Central where they belong?
Astro fans wonder the same thing. They didn’t want to leave the NL. They also have a Dodger-type TV deal where more than half the hometown fans can’t get their games.
They need to put the Astros and Rangers in the Central.

I would like to see 4 8-team divisions, with an intradivision schedule. The Angels, Dodgers, SD, Arizona, SF, Oakland, Seattle, and Colorado would make the Western Division with the existing teams. They play each other 22 times during the regular season in 154-games. Media outlets will be developed with “west coast bias.” Games will begin and end at a reasonable time locally. Rivalries will heat up. The division championships will follow with the two finalists going to the World Series. Everything is over by October 10.
-
Following up an 108-year-old World Series drought with another championship is something I didn’t think could happen. Plus the Dodgers won 104 games. This year I thought Cleveland would follow suit and end their 69-year-drought. It looks like the Astros are going the way of the Indians if they don’t win two in Houston.

Arte is committed to paying 4 / $88.5M along with the existing terms and conditions of his contact. That’s all we know. If he opts out it wouldn’t surprise me if Arte tells Eppler to pull the plug on Upton and shop elsewhere.
Arte CAN’T pull the plug or else the Angels will forever be the Miami Marlins. Unless Giancarlo Stanton is in tow, then we can’t fail to sign Upton.

I don't know why fans here just can't accept the fact that our owner just does things differently and has different priorities. Comparing it to a different teams situation and actions really isn't all that worthy of any attention or discussion.
Because the results aren’t as good as they used to be.

I do have my baseball connections I did mention years ago that Pete Rose would never make it into the HOF and it was because of things not related to gambling.
I think if Pete had any kind of PR skills or common sense he’d be able to get in the HOF, although probably never again work in a baseball capacity.
But that’s not happening. He always creates a distraction at HOF time, gambles, cheats on his wife, etc.
All Pete cares about is Pete.

Joe G just took himself out of consideration by winning the Indians series. I thought this was going to be Cleveland’s year.

Collins didn't save Mo Vaughn. Of course he would have been crushed, but still.
I didn’t have a personal computer until 1998 (do they still make e-Machines?) and broadband until 2002 so I was a Halo fan in exile since 1972. Couldn’t obtain a cap until Reggie Jackson joined the team.
My question is, did BubbleA$$ try to start a mutiny with the players to get rid of Collins?
We got him! Ohtani selects the Angels
