He showed improved plate discipline to start the season.
Since coming back from the injury he has slugged just .367 with plenty of terrible hacks. He needs to get it going.

I wonder if it was Farrell or the players that chose Glen Perkins.
"His 3.22 earned-run average ranked 40th among 57 AL relievers with 30-plus innings"
Just dominant.
The Twins also send Suzuki to the game so they were already represented.

I would have loved to see Aybar make it, but Alexei Ramirez is having a solid year. You could make a pretty compelling argument for either one of them, so I'm not really bothered by Aybar being the odd man out. Richards, on the other hand, got screwed. He's pretty easily been a top five starter in the AL this year, and none of the other SPs that made it deserve the "Respect the Career" treatment.
Their numbers look similar but Aybar has clearly had the better year.
Aybar: .278/.315/.414 (Aybar actually leads all AL SS in slugging and ops)
Ramirez: .286/.320/.408
Similar but their road splits tell a different story.
Aybar: .313/.345/.494
Ramirez: .246/.277/.353 ...........He's been pretty bad away from that launching pad.
Defensive stats (fangraphs)
Aybar: 10.5
Ramarez: 2.0
Overall Aybar is at 2.5 fWAR and Ramirez is at 1.6 fWAR.
Then there is the fact the Aybar is on a very good team while Ramirez is on a bad one.
Both are much more deserving the Jeter and his lifetime achievement award BS.

At least we have Trout as a starter. In 2009 the first place Angels didn't even get a player into the game.
Thanks Maddon.

Nice win. Chisox have a good offense so it's good to see that the Angels can outslug them.

Albert, you idiot... Nice.

Victor really doesn't like the unnecessary slide while fielding the ball. I agree.
-
Just a guess, but he may not be hiding the ball as effectively as he used to. The velocity is the same but lefties are no longer way late on most of their swings.
In 2012 they hit just .095 and last year just .155 against him. Lefties would only square up that fastball after seeing 5 or 6 pitches.
Whatever it is, he needs to fix it soon. If he can't even be trusted in a 5 run game then he isn't much use.

Let people ingest what they want; alcohol, blow, cigs. They're going to do it anyway. Make them ingest it away from the public and stop with the jailing.
Just wanted to turbo boost the thread.
Yes. Prohibition doesn't work, whether it's alcohol, drugs or guns.
The vast majority or the owners of 300 million guns adhere to the Non-Aggression Principle even if they've never heard about it. They use their weapons for a purely defensive use. If even 0.0001 of those guns were used aggressively then those fbi.gov crime stats would be far higher.
The response to the vast majority who never use their guns aggressively is to... send men with guns to aggressively take them away?
Hillary Clinton recently said about gun owners "We cannot let a minority of people – and it’s, that’s what it is, it is a minority of people – hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people,â€
Shit, now I can't even "hold a viewpoint" without some authoritarian gash trying to take that away. I'm now considered a thought-crime terrorist.

I wouldn't be surprised if Kyle Anderson has a longer and better career than Lavine. Nice pick by the Spurs.
-
That's fine. I have several. Come and take them. Don't send anyone else. You.

Booze kills the people that drink it.
Guns kill innocent people at a FAR higher rate than alcohol kills other people.
Nice try though.
Are you sure about that? Those scary, black semi-automatic rifles that you want banned killed 323 people in 2011.
367 in 2010. 351 in 2009.

Best home record in MLB too. Not bad after starting 2-6.
-
6 straight is great.
Can't piss away so many scoring opportunities against the Royals. they can pitch. All 3 opposing starting pitchers have a 3.xx ERA.
-
man ernasty threw harder last year and with nice movement
not so much this yr
Avg fastball velocity:
2012: 94.2
2013: 94.4
2014: 94.2
It's not the velocity. Agree about the movement. He just has almost zero run on that pitch anymore.
-
Pour it on. Need more blowpen insurance.
-
Nice. Howie has finally gotten his power stroke back.
-
Cowgill takes a risk with those diving catch attempts but I still like them. Hate seeing an outfielder take seven mini steps only to let the ball land next to their shoetops.
-
So glad we have Victor instead of those shills Phys and Hud. Not only would we be forced to endure Ibanez crappy play, we would have to hear sunshine bullshit about him nonstop. Don't miss those two at all.
-
I miss Jeff Mathis! He works great with pitchers and has a knack in late game situation in keeping the pitchers head in the game.

Kohn walks too many guys but he also has the stuff to get out of jams. Just 11 hits (1 homerun) in 23.2 innings was getting it done. Frieri gives up better than a hit an inning and far too many of them leave the park (8). I'm done with that guy. It's not bad luck, he just sucks.
Somehow Frieri either lost the ability to throw that excellent two-seamer or he got talked out of it. Kohn isn't ideal but he's better than that human launching pad.
Morin and Smith can be the backend with (gulp) Jepsen throwing setup until something better can be worked out. Frieri can FO.

Kiss my ass Scioscia.
That fool has rotten fruit for brains.

Another great comeback win. AO got used to the team losing pathetically every time they went down by a run or two. This year's team is different. A pen that doesn't melt down and put the game out of reach, and a potent offense that grinds their way back into it.
Let Oracle do his double-or-nothing thing as long as this team keeps coming back to win.
