  1. My uncle was a fan from day one and he bought the seat directly from the stadium when they renovated everything back in the 90's.  It spent several years up in Oregon until he moved into a smaller house a few years back and gave it to me.  I actually live about one mile from the stadium, so the thing traveled up the coast, but made its way back home!

  2. I apologize if this isn't the appropriate forum, but I couldn't tell whether there was a better spot for this post.  Anyway, I know that a few of you have Angels mancaves at your homes and I have something you might be interested in.  Years ago, I came across an original seat #1 from the stadium.  I always thought I'd make a mancave around it, but the thing has just been sitting in my backyard for years.  I know this isn't craigslist, so I'm not gonna post pics and prices here, but send me a message or email at ballparknachos@yahoo.com if you're interested in working something out. I'd rather get it to somebody on this site who can truly appreciate it.

  3. So while I'm worried, I'm not throwing in the towel or calling for any heads. Perhaps Butcher should go and I'm starting to join the ranks of those that think it might be time for a new manager, but even then I don't think you remove Scioscia unless the Angels are well below .500 come June 1 or out of contention by the All-Star Break. Its been 13 games.

    While I tend to agree with you, I'm not sure that the Angels can afford to wait until June 1.  We all have our own opinions about whether to make changes, but if the front office is even contemplating Scioscia's release, they may as well get it done now.  If you wait until June, it will be too late to have any effect on the season.  Also, for the sake of argument, its been more than 13 games.  The team has been a disappointment for a few years now.  Its not just that they've been failing to win the division, but they've been failing to seriously compete when they've had the potential to do so.

  4. . . .

    Wells just wasn't a good fit…but to Reagins defense, they had just finished a really poor 2010 season where Bourjos didn't hit, Abreu looked bad, Rivera looked bad, Napoli played mostly 1st because he couldn't play C, Morales was lost for the year, Hunter looked like he regressed. They didn't know Trumbo could make the adjustment to the majors, they didn't know Bourjos would hit so well in 2011.

    They had lost out on Carl Crawford in FA…it wasn't looking good offensively. A year after nearing the franchise record for runs scored at 883, they had scored a measley 681 runs, over 200 runs less. They needed offense. There wasn't much out there or at their own AAA level. They took a gamble and lost.

    That's the best defense of Reagins/ Wells I've ever read.  I'm not saying that I agree, but I applaud the argument.

  5. I hope people realize that I am a season ticket holder. I have gone to many games and I am a die hard fan. If I have been too negative or critical of this team I apologize.

    No one is questioning your fandom or love of the team (we all love the Angels here, in one form or another). I think people just don't like when every other post is something negative about the team.

    Venting is fine, hell I do it just as much as anyone during the regular season, but I also balance that out with positive things and giving the team/players props when they are doing well. Some people seem to disappear when the team is doing well (not saying you do this).

    That's right.  No one is questioning your love of the team.  They are just questioning your lack of conversational conformity in an online message board.

  6. In Northern California, at the apartment of some female Giant's fan.  The painful part was that my brother and dad were at the Stadium, sitting next to Ricky Henderson, calling me  as the final out was made.  I was stuck in my second year of law school and couldn't get down to Socal because of a 60 page paper due the next day.  Worst decision ever.

  7. yes, but the Angels have to also think about long term.  If they give him what Howard got.  Then later on, he can come back and say in Arb 1 that he wants Howard money, you even thought I should get Howard money after my first year of mlb service.

    In the first year of arbitration, Howard asked for $18 million.  Phillies were at $14 million.  They eventually settled for a 3 year, $54 million contract.  This was just to buy out his arbitration years.

    That's a good point.  I suppose I'm basing my position on the assumption that they will try to lock him up before his arbitration years begin.

  8. Might be better to give him the big money next year.

    Or do both.  Pay him double this year and offer the big money next year.  The alternative is that you piss him off this year, thus hurting negotiations next year.  Its still under 1 million and well worth it, if it benefits the team in the long run.  There is very little downside.

  9. The Angels would be fools to screw around with this issue.  Even at double the salary, it still comes out to less than 1 million.  At the end of the day, its chump change for a major league organization and the production they expect to get from Trout is worth more than everyone else on the team.  I get that they want to stand their ground, but why risk alienating the "future of baseball" over a fraction of what you are paying plenty of other players with less production.

    Make the guy happy and pay him in accordance with the salaries guys like Jeter, Howard and Pujols got after earning themselves a similar situation.

    Unfortunately, I won't be shocked if they come in at less than 700K.

  10. 1. The Marine Layer will be blamed for three to four missed opportunities in April;

    2. Artie will finally stop playing "Build Me Up Buttercup" in the middle of the seventh and the team will have a record number of actual "rallies" late in the game;

    3. A fan will streak the outfield in early August, only to be tackled and tazed by Anaheim's finest. Further investigation will reveal that this fan was actually Roger Lodge, who went on a two week bender after being let go from AM 830 (No malice in this last comment- I actually enjoy the Sports Lodge).
