If you were in the Angels, would you just offer Trout 10/250 right now? He's going to make a ton in arb, and this way you are keeping him away from free agency while only locking him up through age 31. And that kind of money would be kind of hard to say no to, right?

I'm not sure he'd take it. I've certainly heard enough stories of player discontent with Scioscia that I could see Trout saying screw it, I'll clean up in arbitration and go be a Dodger or a Yankee at age 26.

  2. I would make it  200 million for 15 years and front load it.  The average would be  13.3 million and make it easier for Angels to stay under salary cap.

Then I would pay 170 the first ten years.  30 million for the last five.  Then allow Trout to have an opt out after ten years.  Basically we would really be offering 170 over 10 season as Trout would no doubt opt out, but in regards to cap space it is only 13.3 mil.

    Salary cap? Seriously?

  3. jmo the huge potential for power production alone is reason to keep him around.

as he matures further,  this guy won't turn into rob deer.

as far as his defense, its adequate at first, althogh that position doesn't show off his ++ arm.

    Trumbo;s 1st 3 full seasons - 115 OPS+

    Rob Deer 1st full 3 seasons - 115 OPS+

  4. The Cards have a 2nd baseman who made the All-Star team, is leading the league in runs scored and doubles, and has a slash of .311/.386/.477. They also have a top-100 prospect, Kolten Wong, at 2nd at AAA with a slash of .298/362/458.

How in the world would the Cards be a good fit, and why would they give up stud pitching prospects for Howie and his $10M/yr?

  5. Stanton's numbers have crashed this year making him look more like Adam Dunn (65 K's in 56 games .239 avg) but with a glove.

Does anyone really look at average anymore? Anyway, Stanton is still getting on base at a good clip (his 2013 OBP is .351, career-.350), his problem this year is his slugging. He lead the NL last year @ .608, but is down to .450 this year. Probably injuries, but who knows?

  6. Dusty Baker does come to mind.

Dusty takes all kinds of heat from everyone who follows baseball. Scioscia, on the other hand, really only gets heat from followers of the Angels. The Angels have been such a mess the last two years, but no one really knows who is accountable for the mess (the GM , the owner). Plus, Scioscia has the ridiculously long contract the prohibits the team from dismissing him.

Looking over the list of current managers, I don't see anyone more "overrated" than Mike.

  7. According to the movie, its good role players that play alongside an MVP and a runner up (Tejada and Chavez), along with a ridiculous starting 3 rotation and bullpen.

But the good role players are the reason for the wins. (according to the movie)

People commenting on "Moneyball", the book, because they saw that awful movie has reached epidemic levels on baseball forums. And like the above, they are usually way, way off base (no pun intended)

  8. The Angels could lose every game the rest of the year, and that would not make Reagins any less of an moran. There is only one person on the planet that would have willingly traded for Vernon Wells. And to make matters worse, he ate almost the whole contract AND gave up talent return. No amount of bad luck and bad play on Dipotos watch can change that
