  1. "The one with the power to vanquish the Rangers approaches ... released from those who have thrice defied him, born as the fifth month dies ... and the Rangers will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Rangers knows not ... and either must lose at the hand of the other for neither can win the World Series while the other remains ... the one with the power to vanquish the Rangers will be born as the fifth month dies ..."

    I think Sybill Trelawney's prophecy was wrong. I demand a refund.  :D

  2. The Cardinals did try to sign Pujols and for essentially  the same yearly salary but for fewer years. So your predicament would have been hitting a payroll ceiling quicker while the Angels still have room regardless of where they are now. Going forward the payroll for the Angels is not going to stop them from acquiring players they think they need to turn the team's fortunes around, even though each year many here claim it will.

That we did. It would have been almost impossible to make the signings that we did when AP left. We signed Molina, Wainwright and extended Freese and Craig while getting Miller.

I hate to say it because I loved watching AP play here in STL, but it seems like the Cardinals got the better end of the deal as of right now. Who knows what would have happened if we would have kept AP. Would the Cardinals have been better then they are now? Or Worse?

That's good news that you have that extra space to acquire other players to help out. I didn't know if you'd be hindered by their contracts.

  3. From my understanding Arte went in with the high risk high reward combo pack with Pujols and Hamiltion. Who could blame him? On paper you would have one of the (if not) scariest 3-4 punch in baseball.

While most experts predicted the inevitable decline of these players I don't think anyone could have predicted how fast they would have fallen.

Now if I was the GM I'd be lying to you all if I said i wasn't going to do my best to get Pujols and Hamilton the moment they hit free agency. I just wouldn't have done such a long contract with them. That's financial suicide. I would have gone at most with Pujols (I know he wanted a longer contract) 5 years with additional perks for performance and options for additional years.

Again I can't blame Arte for going all in (the Cardinals to an extent have done the same thing aka trades/signings [see 2006, 2011])

I just think he might of pulled the trigger a little too quickly. Live and Learn. Hopefully he learns from this and can focus on putting the right resources and people in place to get the Angels back to being a playoff/world series caliber team (this season is still far from over, but after watching this past weekends series with the Pirates (STL had tons of rain delays) I just don't know if they are going to put it together. I'm trying to remain optimist for you guys but I'd be lying if I said I had complete faith)

  4. My question for you guys is how much will you have available to spend and get the right pieces to contend? Pujols and Hambone contracts have to take up quite a chunk of payroll for you guys to spend. I'm sure Trout's value will continue to grow as well so that's something to keep in mind.

I don't know much about the inner workings of the Angels like some of you guys, but if the Cardinals would have kept Pujols we would have been in quite a hole. Ours is 116 million. I know we like to stay under 120 mil.

  5. Once upon a time (2011) the Cardinals were 10 1/2 games out and at the last moment decided eh what the heck let's play some baseball. Game 162 which started the magical run that lead to the most exciting 129 minutes of baseball history. From there the Cardinals then went on to win the World Series (I'd like to thank the Braves for their epic collapse that made this all possible)

I'm not saying the Angels will do what the Cardinals did, but until you are eliminated there is always a chance.

There is still a lot of baseball to be played and hopefully the Angels can turn things around.

    :)

  6. LOL. It's looks like A's and Cardinals fans haven't watched too many Angels games this season. A Yankee sweep is increasingly likely. The Yankees winning at least two is all but guaranteed. If we win two I'll shit on my own face. And us sweeping is absolutely impossible.

I think someone owes us a picture of this!!!  :P

I told you stranger things have happened in baseball.  ^_^
