  2. "WHO’S MISSING: They’re too green to be on a full-season club yet, but keep an eye on righthanders Alfonso Alcantara and Eduar Lopez. Alcantara’s fastball sits in the mid-90s and Lopez has an excellent curveball, but they will both stay back in extended spring training after spending last year in the Dominican Summer League. Mike Clevinger is still recovering from Tommy John surgery he had late last year."

  4. Salt Lake Bees announce 2013 Opening Day roster

    http://www.ksl.com/?sid=24622286&nid=294&s_cid=rss-extlink

"On the mound, Salt Lake returns four pitchers who saw action for the Bees a year ago, including Matt Shoemaker who has worked more innings (354.0) than any other pitcher in the minor leagues over the last two seasons. The Bees also welcome nine pitchers with major league experience, including Billy Buckner, Fernando Cabrera, David Carpenter, Robert Coello, Dane De La Rosa, Barry Enright, Michael Kohn, Elvin Ramirez and Mitch Stetter.

Behind the plate, veteran catcher John Hester returns to Salt Lake after spending the majority of the 2012 season as the Angels backup catcher. Luke Carlin, a free agent signee with big league experience most recently with Cleveland, and recent signee and MLB veteran Chris Snyder will share catching duties with Hester.

In the infield, the 2012 Angels' organization batting champion Luis Jimenez (.309) will make his second consecutive opening day roster with Salt Lake at third base. Efren Navarro, the PCL's best defensive first baseman (.997 fielder percentage) in 2012, also makes his return to Salt Lake. Veteran infielders Tommy Field and Luis Rodriguez join the Angels organization for the first time in 2013.

The Bees welcome back Angels' top outfield prospect Kole Calhoun in 2013 where he is joined by new teammates in veteran outfielders Scott Cousins, Roberto Lopez, Trent Oeltjen and Matt Young."

Here's what Sosh said about going with Conger despite previous throwing issues: "As a catcher, you don’t have to shut down a running game, but you need to contain it. And Hank has the arm strength to do that, he just, for a while, lost his rhythm in the spring and had a rough time early in camp. As spring went on, there’s no doubt he found his release point and threw better."

    29. Nick Mutz (RHP)

Bats: Right Throws: Right Height: 6’1” 190 lbs. DOB: 6/15/90
    (AZL Angels/ Cedar Rapids): 0-4, 11.14 ERA, 9 BBs, 13 Ks, 21 IP

Mutz left NAIA Dakota State after his 2010 season and did not pitch for anyone the following spring. Ric Wilson received a tip on him and brought him into a predraft workout. Mutz threw a bullpen session and that's all Wilson and the Angels needed to see to draft the fireballer in the ninth round of the 2011 draft. After a solid opening act in Orem last season (2011), Mutz was shelled in what was a brief season that ended early due to an arm injury in 2012. In 18 relief appearances, Mutz posted a 11.14 ERA while opposing hitters hit .408 against him.

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound righthander has a solid average fastball in the 93-96 MPH range, a good slider that darts away and down on righties and low and in on lefties. Though he's pitched in the bullpen to this point, the Angels like him as starting pitcher going forward. Mutz shows a good feel for his changeup, but it's an offering that still needs work.

Mutz will get another crack in Low-A ball if he's healthy and has a good showing in spring camp. Definitely an arm to keep an eye on going forward as the Angels really like his fastball/slider combo and developing change.
