You're right.. that was looking at Espn's WAR. 

Lets look at fangraphs instead.. His total WAR only drops to 25th.

Maldonado is a platoon catcher who got into it with a superstar and he lost. We'd all be laughing our asses off if yan gomes mouthed off to Trout then Trout hit a 2r bomb and looked back at him.
