  1. Jack Robinson and the other early black MLB players never found the welcome mat out for them in St. Louis. About 100 years ago, civic and business leaders resisted a movement to impose racial segregation in St. Louis. The forces pushing for segregation forced a referendum and it passed in a landslide. The courts threw it out in a couple of years, but the sentiments remain. Things haven't changed all that much in the 'burbs around St. Louis. So those chants are not surprising at all. The chanters may now be a minority, but they are still around. The nation was able to see some of them for weeks on end just a couple of summers ago.
