  1. Surprisingly, This team is built to Win now and thats why i believe you have to go after the best pitchers possible. Whether that pitcher has a1st round draft pick tied to him or not. I say we go after one of the pitchers with a draft pick tied to him just because we will be able to leverage that and get a favorable contract. And honestly how many times do first round picks in Baseball pan out to be the true talent that they were thought to be in the majors?

  2.

How about offer Trumbo for Cahill and Skaggs? The Diamondbacks are said to be shopping Cahill whose salary is jumping to 8 million dollars this next season. I think Cahill, Skaggs and Richards would give us a younger rotation, and a solid three after Weaver/Wilson. Trumbo could play RF for the Diamondbacks and replace the power they lost after dealing Justin Upton. Thoughts?

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the A's and Diamondbacks discussed a Yoenis Cespedes trade.

The return package for Oakland would have included pitcher Tyler Skaggs and outfielder A.J. Pollock, but the two sides couldn't agree to the other elements of the deal and it has now been called off. Arizona is clearly searching for a power bat this offseason. The A's have loaded up in recent days and seem unlikely to move any high-impact parts.

Their current rotation if that type of trade went through...The Diamondbacks would have to sign another arm, but they get a big bat for the next two seasons.

      1. Patrick Corbin   2. Trevor Cahill   3. Wade Miley   4. Brandon McCarthy   5. Randall Delgado

Probably one of the more realistic trade ideas I've seen on the boards this WINTER that I LIKE!

  3. I am having a hard time grasping that Trumbo has such minimal trade value.  If reports are correct that Nelson Cruz could obtain as much as $60-80 million over 4 years, then there is obviously significant demand for his services.  But compare the two over the last three years:

    Cruz: .263/.319/.489/.808, with 80 homeruns, 253 RBI, and an OPS+ of 112

    Trumbo: .251/.300/.473/.773, with 95 homeruns, 282 RBI, and an OPS+ of 115.

Offensively, it is a wash.  By some measurements, Trumbo is the better hitter.  Cruz's .019 OBP advantage is, IMO, insignificant.

I get that Cruz is the better defender, but he is also six years older, a known PED user, and will command a ton more money than Trumbo (who is probably going to make about $20 mil through the arbitration process).

So I am scratching my head as to why Cruz will likely command a huge deal, while Trumbo apparently can't net us a good AAA pitching prospect.

Great point. And this is Trumbo's stat line in a pitchers ball park compared to Cruz's in Hitters heaven......

  4. If MLB puts a Cap on the bidding for TANAKA, like they are proposing. Then it is likely many teams will bid the max amount of money for TANAKA....then what happens? That has not been determined, however it is likely TANAKA will get to choose what team he wants to negotiate with. With that being said, It really comes down to where he wants to play and I have no reason to think he would or would not pick us....

    On a name for him, I LIKE...... TA-NAKA-NAKAAAA....  ;)

From light research TANAKA mean "dweller"

sounds like a perfect fit for this team...

  5. A friend of mine reading the reactions here and someone who is highly respected in the community here sent this to me offline.

Calhoun, Hamilton, Schuck, Trout gives the Angels a contending outfield. Bourjos better than Calhoun and or Schuck? Perhaps, but he was also expendable.

Everyone talks about pitching being a need. Agree, but last I checked Scioscia has to write a 3B on the lineup card 162 games next season. Who will that be? Chris Nelson? I watched the Rockies send him packing because he was not an everyday player. Great utility player, but he is not a 3B on a contending team. The tweet about Freese being no better than Alberto Callaspo was laughable.

The Angels are in the mess they are in right now because, in part, they continued to overestimate their players. Dallas McPherson, Casey Kotchman, Jeff Mathis, Brandon Wood, Nick Gorneault, Terry Evans, and Matt Brown were all thought to be future front line MLB players and there was a point where each of these guys could have been moved for significant return. The front office refused to even listen. Many of the Angelswin.com posters agreed. I'm glad Dipoto isn't repeating past mistakes and holding on to guys like Bourjos when a trade improves the club.

Maybe the trade fails. But on 11/22 it was a smart move.

Chuck Gets IT! We had 5 players start at 3rd in 2013. The position needed to be addressed and it was!

  6. We took a player who hasn't don't much for us in the last two years and traded him for an above average player at a position that needed to be filled…he also got away from his home town where I'm sure he felt lots of pressure to deliver after being a world series hero and putting up the numbers he did in 2012….so a fresh start in a new town could be just what he needed…maybe I'm stretching here but overall its not a terrible trade and the negativety surrounding the trade is over the top.

  7. Wait, are we really using the whole "David Freese just felt too much pressure to produce in front of his hometown fans" as an excuse now?

We're all aware that he's played his ENTIRE career in front of those same fans, right? Did the pressure to produce in front of them magically become greater in between 2012 and 2013?

Yes he did play his entire(4 years basically) career in front on these fas, but once he had his coming out year in 2011 and then his career year in 2012 on top of being a world series hero….Fans expected him to be that stud player...  So possibly that pressure on top of playing in an amazing baseball town like St Louis  got to him and lead to a decline in his numbers last year…

  8. I don't see how this is a terrible trade for us….

Bourjos is a good player but nothing what you guys think he is and he is GLASS, only playing 156 games in the last two years …he didn't have the trade value to get the starting pitching we are looking for…but he did have the trade value to get a solid 3rd Baseman, which was a need for us if you guys forgot...

We still have a talented/above avg. outfield in Hamilton, Trout, Calhoun/Shuck/Trumbo….

Freese fills a hole in our infield, giving us a solid 3rd baseman…which could allow us to move Aybar/Kendrick for pitching…aybar/kendrick will bring back better players in a trade then Bourjos would.

Freese also gets away from his hometown where he felt lots of pressure as a player to produce. Just like Chris Davis did in Texas but once he was moved to Baltimore…..we all saw what happened there.

Lastly to think that we are done for the offseason and don't have a chance to trade or sign some starting pitching because we traded Borjous is Crazy, lets the offseason unfold….
