  1. Are you sure? Doesn't seem like they'd nontender a .289 hitter at age 27 that could reasonably swipe 40 bags a year and play some solid D.

    Player A:

    2013-2015

270 G, .684 OPS, 2.0 fWAR, $6,565,000 (cost of the player over those years)

    Player B:

    2013-2015

205 G, .646 OPS, 3.0 fWAR, $1,994,520 (cost of the player over those years)

Player A was acquired by trade, netting a #4/5 starter and a top 55 prospect

Player B was acquired by trade, netting a org-filler OF prospect

Going forward, Player A will be a free agent after the 2017 season

Going forward, Player B will be a free agent after the 2018 season

    Player A is currently 27

    Player B is currently 28

Would you be willing to give up Heaney, Green, Alcantara, Yarbrough, and Rhoades for either of these players?

    Player A is Ben Revere

    Player B is Collin Cowgill

    Have at it.

  2. Depends on what role we're looking for.  If we're looking for a bullpen savior, spend the money and bring in Mujica. If we're talking about complimentary LHP because of a lack of confidence in Maronde, Sisk and Taylor or in burnett's ability to stay healthy, Javier Lopez is the way to go. If we're talking about building depth and giving the Angels more options, you go with guys that couldn't cut it as starters like Dontrelle Willis and Tim Stauffer and just seeing if anything develops in Spring Training.

I think that the Angels are fine in terms of depth.  Relievers like Morin and Alvarez can really come in and make a difference in the future, but should obviously be started off in low leverage situations.  I don't know if Burnett is someone you can trust being healthy a full year though, which leaves the bullpen exposed in high leverage situations with LHB's at the plate.  So signing Javier Lopez seems like a really good way to go.

As far as bullpen savior, I wouldn't spend the money.  If DDLR, Frieri, Burnett, Lopez, Morin, Rasumus, Kohn, Alvarez etc. can't protect an 8th and 9th inning lead, there's a lot more wrong than we think.  I would definitely take a chance on someone like Willis and Stauffer in AAA just in case you catch lightning in a bottle but other than that + Lopez, I'd stay awayfrom RP free agents.

    Um

    2009: 71 games

    2010: 73 games

    2011: 69 games

    2012: 70 games

  3. I like it Scott, but it just seems like we're spending money on things we already have with Stauffer.

    1. Trade Hanson to KC for a prospect.

    2. Non-tender Williams, give him a shot with someone else in baseball.

    3. Offer Jason Vargas compensation, for which he'll surely decline and gain compensation round pick.

    4. Trade Kendrick, Cron, Grichuk and 5 million to TB for Hellickon (yeah I'm sticking with it).

    5. Trade Cowart, Jepsen and the compensation round pick from Vargas to Cubs for Jeff Samardzija.

    6. Sign Edward Mujica.

    C- Conger. 1B - Trumbo. 2B - Lindsey. SS - Aybar. 3B - Green. LF - Trout. CF - Bourjos. RF - Hamilton. DH- Pujols.

Nelson splits time at 3B with Green while Green also splits time at 2B with Lindsey.  Shuck and Calhoun are both kept on staff because Bourjos is an injury risk and both Hamilton and Pujols are injury and ineffectiveness risks.

    BENCH: Nelson, Shuck, Calhoun, Iannetta.

ROTATION: Weav, Wilson, Samardzija, Hellickson, Richards

BULLPEN: Mujica, Frieri, Burnett, DDLR, Kohn, Maronde, Morin

I'd be willing to bet that team would finally break the 90 win plateau, assuming Scioscia shows a quick trigger finger on certain players not hitting the ball.

There's absolutely zero chance you're getting Samardzija for that package, especially since you can only trade competitve balance draft picks.
