Blaming players is just such a cop out. You either blame the person bringing in the players (Dipoto), the person coaching the players (Scioscia, Butcher, etc.), or both. I definitely blame both of them for how bad this team is...they both need to lose their jobs for this.

I jumped straight to the end. Let me guess, another knee jerk fire Sosh thread because Frieri blew it?
Knee jerk? LOL it's been 4 years since we've made the playoffs, and this current team is basically the laughing stock of baseball considering the payroll and how terrible they are on the field. The players have changed over the last 4 years, the GM has changed in the last 4 years, so has the hitting coach...there is one constant in our failures the last 4 years...Mike Scioscia
-
Scioscia definitely needs to go. Just look at how terrible we are on the bases and in the field. Go watch a Cardinals or Braves game, and you'll see how much better they are prepared than we are. They're fundamentally sound teams. Fire the whole coaching staff in the offseason.

Like I said in another thread, this team is at least a 105 loss team without Trout. Dipoto and Scioscia can thank this kid for saving their asses the last two years.
-
I don't like Dipoto but he has had less than two years to straighten out the mess that Reagins left.
And he's managed to make it worse then when Reagins left...hooray!
Seriously, the only reason this team is watchable is because of Trout...Trout was drafted when Reagins was GM. If not for inheriting Trout, Dipoto would be the GM of a 110 loss team.

I still think Jerry has the right idea. Part of it is bad luck and poor execution. Probably should have signed Sanchez instead of Hamilton which lets us avoid Blanton. Burnett was just bad luck. No one could see his injury coming. Madsen was bad, Blanton was bad, Hamilton was bad. Chatwood was a tough loss, but I still think it was a trade that had to be made. No GM has a crystal ball, fellas. Who honestly saw us being THIS bad?
I partly agree. The team should not be as bad as they are playing on the field...I blame Scioscia and Butcher for a lot of that. However, a lot of the moves he has made have turned out awful. I refuse to simply chalk that up to "bad luck". No way

Honestly, name a GM or two in the game that has been worse than Dipoto the last two years.
-signed Pujols to terrible contract (maybe Arte's fault)
-signed Hamilton to terrible contract
-Hanson for Walden looks terrible right now
-Segura for Greinke
-Joe Blanton
-Chatwood for Iannetta
-Didn't go get Anibal Sanchez when Greinke left
-Ignored bullpen in 2012
-Madson hasn't played
-Burnett has been hurt
-Traded Erivn Santana for a bag of balls (Ervin is having an incredible season)
Terrible. Fire this guy immediately.

DONE!!

I have a feeling that some of the same posters who are saying the team should rebuild will be the same ones complaining the entire season on 2014 as they have minor league talent all over the field.
I'd rather finish in 4th place and have a sense of direction with young talent in the system, then finish in 4th place with no sense of direction at all like the current team.
So, I think you're wrong on this one

Good article and yes to 'grit does matter' . A little guy by the name of Dustin Pedroia oozes grit.
Why because he's a 5'8 white guy who plays good defense? Is that the new definition of grit? I think the reason Pedroia is a winner is because he's a damn good player...Maybe that's just me. This team needs more talent than grit.
-
So if we had nine position players just like Shuck we would probably win a championship; I'm more inclined to believed we would be ****ed.
My post was obviously sarcasm, but sadly, my post is exactly how the manager of this sorry ass team thinks.
-
Rebuild until 2018. By then we might actually have a competent coaching staff that knows how to get a group of youngsters to succeed, unlike the current one would
-
We would have never won the WS without David Eckstein's will to win. JB Shuck is a much needed addition to this team because of the grit he adds. The pine tar on his helmet really just symoblizes the grit exploding out of him, and Scioscia having wet dreams about being able to hit him leadoff every game. He realized that we haven't made the playoffs since Reggie Willitz was on the team, so had to replace him.

0-2 when it comes to contributing some worthwhile context there FTA...
Huh??? I posted my opinion man. Back off. It's not like there's much to get excited and positive about when it comes to the Angels right now...
who cares if the team loses. Honestly at this point you just have to root for some of the young guys to come into their own and play well, so we have some leverage to make moves in the offseason and hope for a better 2014.
I completely agree. Just sick of losing...and no one being held responsible for it in the FO or the field coaches./..

Why Aybar leadoff? .308 OBP is terrible. At least Calhoun is playing and Weaver is pitching....ugh Weaver in Arlington rarely goes well. Looks like another Angels loss is coming....
-
This team is finished, so I doubt this really matters. Downs was good for us, and now this GM we have has wasted his effectiveness by signing players that can't tie their shoelaces (Blanton, Hamilton, Pujols, etc.). Hopefully we saw a lot of Calhoun and Maronde/Richards down the stretch. Oh wait, I forgot our manager is Mike Scioscia so that will never happen in a million years. Silly me.
Now is the time to relieve Scioscia of his duties

Thanks for the very informative response. So let me get this straight...you're saying that the last 4 years the players are to blame even though most of the players have changed over the last 4 years? LOL that's what I'd expect out of you pollynannas.
