  1. I once read in Benjamin Franklin's autobiography that he used to keep a daily record of his most salient character defects in an effort to work on and eventually eradicate them from his personality. Thought that was very interesting. Anybody want to jump in the fire with me in the name of self-actualization? I've been told that I act defensively and do not handle criticism well. I know that I am hypersensitive to screaming children and yelping dogs. Probably could be a little bit more humble sometimes, too.
  2. You're pretty much taking a less extremist conservative stance on an issue and trying to make it sound progressive and liberal; but I'll take it. It's probably the best answer I'm going to get, and I don't want to argue anymore. As usual, and I say this with the utmost sincerity, I appreciate the time that you took to express your views, but I don't really think that we are on the same page, nor will we ever be.
  3. MT, can you please specify whether you are referring to drugs or immigration?
  4. "Did I say I voted down a party line?" You pretty much implied it when you said that I couldn't delve into your secret liberal fantasies because you "really have none." But please, share with us all the last time you voted against the grain. You can do it in this thread or the other thread--but for Christ's sake stop talking about it and just go on the record all ready.
  5. What a shock. You vote down the line without batting an eye, just checking off every R on the ballot. Needless to say this comes as a great surprise to me. Of all the hair-splitting, critical thinking, open minded, contemporary sages of our time, who would have thought--Eric Notti, an unwavering partisan!
  6. Ummm....I am well aware that this is a different thread. I saw that you were active on the other thread, so I assumed that you'd get the reference. Big mistake on my part. I asked an honest, well-intended sociological question: why do people mock each other on political message boards? What do they have to gain from the experience? I know that I used to do it in 2004 because I had a boring job that forced me to sit at a computer all day. Is that why you guys do it? By the way, Notti, I noticed that you didn't post anything on the other thread, though you were active in reading peoples' responses. I'm dying to hear about your secret liberal fancy--because there are so many, I'm sure. It's only a matter of which one to pick...
  7. You guys asked for a "liberal" presence. Here I am. What's up? What are the sharks circling for now?
  8. Drone strike #2. Wrong about what? I didn't even take a stand on anything.
  9. To avoid getting dragged through the mud, I will take this opportunity to apologize. I didn't mean to look down on anybody on this board in particular. I am, however, genuinely curious as to where some of you draw the line on certain issues. Please, for the sake of my own personal edification, humor me, if you are able to make one of the above mentioned distinctions.
  10. I thought he was referring to illegal immigrants.
  11. Haha, ok. i respect it coming from you, mtangelsfan. I guess I just got a little hot after YK's post.
  12. Ok, Nate refuses to answer. Anybody else?
  13. I wrote "You think independent thinking is cute." In case anyone was curious what Nate is referring to. I just thought I could make a better point. Not trying to cover anything up.
  14. If possible, just to prove that I'm not conversing with a bunch of drones, can each person post one traditionally liberal and one traditionally conservative viewpoint that he or she maintains at the present time? Allow me to provide an example: I believe in worker rights and the right to bear arms. It's not that hard. Try it.
  15. Maybe they got tired of being mocked for their views.
  16. I can only speak for myself, but maybe they realized that by narrowing their perspectives to fit within the framework of a black and white categorical ideology they would be playing into the hands of the demagogues.
  17. 1. Misfits 2. Blondie 3. Fugees 4. The Boss 5. George Clinton
  18. Players gonna play, haters gonna hate. Do your thing, jshep.
  19. I'm pretty ashamed to admit that I like this song too.
  20. But we're getting off topic, gentlemen. Let us return to the music that people mock us for. Am I crazy, or is Cindy Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" a pretty good song? lol.
