Jon Morosi reporting that the Pirates are also discussing multiple trade options for their 1B vacncy.
-
I would initially ask for Skaggs and more. I wouldn't mind Cahill and Skaggs for Trumbo and something else. That would take care of both slots in the rotation.
-
Kelly Johnson. He was signed recently for insurance in case Cano signed elsewhere.
They still have an offer out there to Omar Infante as well.
-
Rosenthal reports Astros and Feldman agree to 3 / 30 mil deal.
One more pitcher gone.
-
Cano ends up getting $130 million more than Pedroia ........... mind blowing!!
Bill Shakin tweets an MLB exec convinced Mariners next play is a David Price trade.
-
"Scott Boras you over baby.... Robinson Cano you comin with me"
I guess it doesn't look so bad now........
-
Oh btw, this deal now puts another 2B on the market available for trade. With Cano in town, Nick Franklin is now likely being shopped, so now the Halos have to deal with that. Franklin younger and cheaper as well so probably more enticing to teams
Now I wonder if the M's offer Walker, Franklin and Prospect for David Price as it was rumored early yesterday.
-
Scott Boras is somewhere laughing his ass off right now.
-
So, this means one of two things -- Cano's representation is very very dense, or Cano really doesn't want to play in Seattle.
Probably both of those things.
Jay Z is going to find out really quick he's in over his head.
Cano on the other hand just lost the one team that was willing to greatly overpay for his services.

Per Mark Feinsand this morning:
@FeinsandNYDN: BREAKING NEWS: Cano and Mariners talks break down, free agent not signing with Mariners http://t.co/SA8UuUDA4b -
I'd do Beckett, Lee for Kendrick and Blanton.
Or Billingsley, Lee for Kendrick, Blanton and $3M plus a lower tier prospect.
I would do absolutely ANYTHING to get rid of Blanton.
I like the Billingley and Lee deal.
-
If the Royals acquire Beltran, a Kendrick-Butler based deal seems like a real possibility, possibly with a 3rd team involved such as the Pirates or Rays who would acquire Mark Trumbo as well.
Why would we want to acquire Butler? He makes the same as Howie and we don't have a spot for him.

Finally, if Tanaka ends up not posting, Garza's price just went up!
Garza's price is going up regardless if Tanaka is posted or not.
When guys like Feldman are asking 3/ 30, and rumors of 120+ for Tanaka are out there, Garza can just sit back and watch his stock soar.
-
I hope they do break the bank for Tanaka. Seems like the unknown in him is worth the gamble over the known in these FA pitchers.
Honestly think it might be worth losing our draft pick again to go after Garza or Santana if we lose out on Tanaka. The window to win with Pujols and Hamilton isn't going to get any bigger.
-
I really hope they make a strong push to acquire Tanaka, if they even decide to post him now.
Hopefully a 6 / 135 would be enough to get it done. It's a huge gamble not knowing how he will pitch in MLB, but could be well worth it if he's anything like Darvish. On the other hand, he could be terrible like Dice-K.

Peter Gammons this morning said GM's hear there is validity to Price to M's for Walker, Franklin, and a 2nd Prospect.
Also goes on to say other GM's believe M's won't deal Walker.
While I think the Angels do have a chance, the chances are slim if M's are willing to include Walker. Although i think it would be dumb for them to offer Walker in a deal for Price.
-
I would do Trumbo for Skaggs and Cahill in a blink of an eye.
That would set the rotation up pretty nicely.
-
No way Royals do that. I could see Duffy and a lesser prospect.
IDK about Locke either. My guess is the Pirates would do it, but Angels probably looking for more.
-
Sounds like its not very clear yet as far as multiple teams with the same winning bid.
I've read the worst record scenario and also saw something that the player would be able to chose which team to negotiate with.
Sounds like a longshot for the Angels either way.
-
Yea our TOP prospects Dallas Macpherson, Brandon Wood, Casey Kotchman, Jeff Mathis, Trevor Reckling, etc. have all turned out to be Future HOF's.
If they don't make a trade for Greinke or Haren then everybody would have complained about them not making a move. It's always a calculated risk and no matter what direction the Front Office decides, the fans will always find something to second guess and complain about.
-
Cano is still available.
At this point I'm starting to like the idea of adding Cano! haha
If our #4 and # 5 starters, whoever they will be, are going to give up 7 runs a night we might as well add to the offense and score 8!
-
I like Arencibia. Maybe Baylor can work some magic and improve his OBP.
That will allow Ianetta to become available and free up some more $, since that seems like the direction we are going. That will give a little more flexibility to sign a FA SP. I wish we would bring back Ervin Santana..... extreme longshot though given his contract expectations.
-
Absolutely NO CHANCE Cano is signed here.
I'm starting to think this could be a Kendrick / Ianetta or Conger for Rutledge / Pomeranz / Prospect type deal
