  1. He did save their season because without him he's we're the laughing stock of the league most likely. Scioscia can thank Trout for saving his job.

Without Trout, we finish in 3rd place.

There's a good chance Seattle could've finished ahead of us last season were it not for Trout. Subtract about 10 from the Angels win column and add a few to theirs (there were a couple games we won aginst them where Trout was by far the biggest producer)

  2. His agent sounds more upset than he does.

From what I understand agent commissions are something like 5%. Getting a $1k payrise when you're only making $24k to start is a bigger deal than going from $490-$510k .

That plus I don't know of any other major players represented by Landis; Landis is probably worried Trout is going to switch to Boras immediately before signing a 9 figure deal.

  3. The Rockies pitching staff is terrible, so maybe.

But at the very least, he probably has a better shot at making it up from AAA at some point during the season with the Rockies than here.

Sounds like the Rockies are trying to catch lightning in a bottle with Cassevah's extreme groundball percentage. Opposite strategy compared to the Angels strategy of loading up on flyball pitchers (which would be a terrible idea in Colorado)

  4. I remember a similar conversation regarding the Angels stalemate with Weaver when he was drafted and how, because the Angels "won" by "only" paying him $4 mil, he was going to really stick it to them when he became a free agent...then he went out and signed a team friendly contract when the moment arrived.  The only one slighted here was Trout's agent and, if Trout isn't an F'n idiot, he won't let any perceived slights effect his performance in 2013 where he can really lay the groundwork for a longterm deal that could hopefully cover him through his first years of free agency.

Trout should switch agents to Boras, but only under the condition that Boras give up his box seats to Trout's family.

  5. 1. Wilson has never been, or will be, an ace. There are less than 15 true aces in the game: Kershaw, Cain, weaver, King Felix, Verlander, Price, Dickey, Hamels, Cliff Lee. Perhaps Greinke and Sabathia.

    2. He was certainly NOT paid ace money. He landed half of What Hamels, King Felix and Greinke landed.

    3. He is an underrated top of the rotation pitcher. There is no shame in that.

Theres' a few more aces. For one, the nominal ace of the Phillies is actually Roy Halladay. Strasburg of the Nationals should be up there and, (unfortunatly) so should Yu Darvish of the Rangers :(

    No Thank You

    Care to elaborate?

K's are overrated in Anaheim thanks to the Marine Layer + Bourjos + Trout situation.

according to that logic Joe Blanton > CJ Wilson

  6. I am surprised that some here are making it a bigger deal tban it is.

He won't resign with the Angels guaranteed.  Don't fall in love with this dude.  He is going home.  BOOK IT.

    Old-@ss Hamels + Halladay + Lee + Trout = #awesome #jerseyshoresucks

I cleaned up some shit in this thread and moved it back here. Ladies, try to disagree respectfully.

Oh and Vegas Mike is banned for 7 days. Next time he gets a 365 day ban. Pretty tired of his act! (Trolling & Internet tough guys won't last here).

We have some good moderators in place here to clean up the mess and calm stuff down if people get out of hand. One thing we won't do this year and going forward is put up with internet DB's who disrespect others not only on here, but talk trash about the players (and their girlfriends). Especially when said GF reads this board and follows us on Twitter.

Nice work. I though my brilliant slightly-buzzed Reagins conspiracy post was lost forever as a result of this thread being deleted. Selective thread cleaning = nice job moderators :)

    I'm torn on this.

I can see why people would be upset about this although I think the level of outrage is somewhat humorous.

The guy had a historic season and they give him a  5% raise and move him from his natural position after he was incredible there last year.

That said, nothing being done is out of the range of reasonable.  He's got 2 more years to follow of non negotiable salaries and then arb to follow.  Plenty of time to make things right, but it is a bit chancy annoying your superstar franchise player to be.  They could have taken the easy way out and given him 750.

What the halos have done is to set a standard that they aren't going to break precedent or make a concession even for a player that will is arguably the face of the team.  Landis should actually be happy about that because when it comes time to negotiate big boy numbers, there will be no past favors or winks or handshakes to consider.  It will be all business and his client will sign a deal because he thinks it's what he deserves or he won't.

There is still plenty of time, but I can't say that I'm all warm and fuzzy about how this went.  Hopefully, it won't matter.

The overreaction over this is on par with the overreaction regarding his weight. Trout just needs to worry about playing, the money will come in huge amounts. These next few years will pale in comparison to when he's offered a blockbuster contract.

I still think they could've given him two wells-games worth of compensation as a salary bump (read: still less than $750k, still altogether more than 10x my annual salary) Especially now that Trout has caught up to Wells re: the BMI situation.

    I like this forum.

  7. A comment from the HardballTalk Trout story (not me):

"Trout will be earning $47,763 per win above replacement (b-ref WAR)

Wells will be earning $42,000,000 per win above replacement (also b-ref WAR)

Thus, as a function of their actual value, Wells will be earning 879 times more per win produced than Trout."

    Thanks Reagins!!!

I think the solution to this is clear. Have Reagins cover the bill for everyone's lunch in the clubhouse. He can afford it with that huge sum of inheritance money he obtained from some long lost super-rich relative he'd never heard of until shortly after the Wells trade went through.

  8. He'll get raises each year even while he's still under control. If he continues to perform at the same level, those increases will be greater. And in all likelihood, he'll have a long term deal in place before his control is up.

Should be interesting to see if this becomes a pattern and the Angels end up going to an arbitration a couple years down the road arguing for something like half of what Trout's agent wants (like what happened with Mathis)
