  1. The last four seasons the Angels have been at or below the pantherian standings...  He used to be a good manager, now he just sucks.

I love how people on this forum acknowledge that players can carry the same abilities for 20+ years.

I also don't blame Scioscia for the years Pujols and Hamilton had.

  2. why? just cause you dont agree with them doesn't mean they should be changed, maybe your casual opinion of pot is what should be changed... but im sure you will disagree with that.. which is fine i guess

What.. Are you trolling? You're saying that we should just accept things because that's the way they are? Should women and black people never have been given the right to vote?

And it's not really a casual opinion. It has medical benefits, google Dr Sanjay Gupta. It would provide a lot of tax revenue (well over $250,000 in Colorado alone on the first day of sales), and would get that money out of organized crime. That's just the start of the argument.

  3. of course i do, and why do you assume the projections would be better at 30 than 25?  What is the warning signs are right and he isnt what you think he will be?

i didnt say they were not positive either... a 3.5 pitchers isnt crap. but it comes down to cost, performance for the investment, and payroll flexibility.

it isnt that i dont like him, i just dont think he is worth the rumors and such.

It really comes down to how tight Arte's budget actually is. If he is flexible and wants the best pitcher, then make a serious run at him. If money is tight and might affect Trout, etc., then weigh other options (Garza, Maholm, etc.) and get the best deal on one. We don't know how big his budget actually is, as seen by who has been signed the last two years and who the Angels said they could afford. Since we don't know that none of us can really say who the best option is for the team.

  4. I understand he failed his physical. What makes anyone think he would pass it here?

It's like the Napoli situation last year with Boston, they just don't want to give him as much money as they initially offered.

  5. I see Weaver as a number "1.5" and Wilson as a "2.5," with the net result being akin to having two #2 starters. Richards, Skaggs, and Santiago are all anything from #3s to #5s. If all three were closer to #3s, then the rotation would be fine as is. But if they're all closer to #5s we're in trouble. I don't think Dipoto wants to risk it.

Tanaka and Garza offer two different forms of risk. Garza is a true #3, but has missed time in each of the last two seasons. Tanaka seems like anything from a #2 to a #4 with the potential to even be a #1 or 1.5 ala Yu Darvish. But he's a relative unknown.

All things being equal I'd prefer Tanaka, but if Garza will take a four-year deal, he'd be really tempting.

Weaver had the injury last year but still pitched to a #1.5 type year. If you factor in his previous several years I would say he is still a solid #1. The velocity decline is worrisome but he has never relied on velocity to get batters out.

Wilson had a #2 type season last year and he was the ace on a World Series team not that long ago. Id argue he is still a solid #2.

That being said, I still support getting tanaka or garza as long as it doesn't impact future budgets too much (i.e. Extending Trout). If the FO thinks they will, then I'd be all for getting a couple of high risk high reward types on short deals and expect one of them to pan out

  6. Hart supposedly has lost 20 pounds since his last full season to try to alleviate the strain on his knees. Maybe it was all pudge and he's just a lean mean batting machine now, but I always worry when I see stories like that. Not even trying to say it's a steroids issue -- I just happen to think it's hard for a guy to play 6 years at one weight then come in at a completely different weight and not have it impact his play.

I like Green at DH, I think there are cheap options that could be signed as well. With Ianetta, Conger, Cowgil, Shuck, Lucho -- we have plenty of bats to rotate at DH anyway.

I think that might have been the most likely reason for Hamilton's season last year

  7. Nothing really earth-shattering or informative.

I find it interesting he said the Angels didn't have the pieces last year to be an aggressive baserunning team, but this season will be different. How have the Angels improved this offseason in regards to baserunning???

Also inferred that Trout will not be leading off anymore. The highest he will be batting is 2nd but will make his way to the middle of the order.

Caloun, a healthy Pujols, maybe a faster replacement for Trumbo

  8. Personally I would rather have this lineup:

    OF Bourjos, Trout, Calhoun

    IF Jimenez, Aybar, Kendrick, Pujols

    DH Hamilton

    than

    OF Trout, Calhoun, Hamilton

    IF Freese, Aybar, Kendrick, Pujols

    DH? Greene/Shuck/Cron

Defense is much better in the first one and the offense all depends on Pujols and Hamilton. If they don't hit, neither lineup will score too many runs.

I bet Conger sees a lot of DH time, then maybe sign a righty for a platoon.

  9. I'd like him better if this team had a great infield D(since he's a high GB% pitcher). With that said, beggars can't be choosers so I'd be totally fine getting him if they are getting Skaggs in there as well

Cahill was once a top prospect himself and keep in mind he's only going to be 26. His best seasons should theoretically be in front of him

On paper our infield D should be good. Aybar is good, Kendrick average to above average, Pujols (if healthy) above average, and Freese (if healthy) average. A couple of question marks, but it should be at least average. Last year our whole team sucked on D for some reason, so it's tough to just base our defense off of last year.
