  1. And that was Brandon Maurer shutting the Angels down, the guy who couldn't last through 1 inning vs the Astros a few starts ago

    to be fair though, since that start he's actually done well

    Maurer learned pretty quickly and painfully that he wasn't in AA Jackson anymore (where he won Outstanding Pitcher of the League last season) as his first couple big league starts came without even throwing a pitch in AAA.

    He has rebounded nicely though, steadily improving over his last 3 starts - should give him a little confidence boost ....

    Since disaster start versus HOU when so many wanted to banish Maurer to TAC: 3 GS, 19IP, 14H, 4ER, 5BB, 13K versus Rangers (2) and Angels

  2. some Yankee fan reaction (from LoHud Yankees blog)

    If you can't go down to the farm to get somebody as good as Vernon Wells its an indictment of your system.

    I give up….

    ::::

    Yankees deep in trade talks for Vernon Wells…and the hits keep coming ?

    ::::

    How on earth can they even think about adding actual money to their payroll for Vernon wells?

    ::::

    Wells? I didn't think they'd go there. At least I had hoped not.

    ::::

    Never mind – I’ve changed my mind on Vernon Wells. He’ll fit in nicely. Over paid, best years are long gone and in his mid-thirties. Awesome.

    Its shocking that so many people get so emotional about these yankees moves. I’m numb to it by now. This team is so comically pathetic its not even worth being upset by the shockingly retarded decisions.

  3.

    Morales! Diving stop to grab the Blanco liner. This guy is much better at first than I expected.

    Got back from the clubhouse in time to see an opposite field shot by Morales. HR number 5 on the spring. Mariners u

    What's gotten into these M's?? Leading all grapefruits and cacti in home runs?
    Yeah it's only spring training but, even if just a bit of the power carries over to the regular season, the improvement will be ... vast

  4. Okay but he's still not worth what he got, he's a diva and has injury concerns. He has broken 1000 yard from scrimmage once. I'm not valuing him solely based on his WR stats either, rather pointing out that he is first and foremost a WR and hasn't exactly accomplished a lot in that respect. He is a very good player but that's a lot to invest for someone who will publicly criticize his QB. Harvin is arguably the best kick returner out there too which is great to have, but with the rule changes that skill's impact has been hampered a bit. With that said, it does make sense for Seattle to do this since their group of wide outs wasn't very impressive and Wilson needs someone to continue his progression.

    Percy was a pro-bowler as a rookie and led the Vikes in receiving his three subsequent seasons in Minny (including last season when he only played 9 games).

    Also, the fact that the Vikings have been known to run the ball ;) a bit might have been a bit of a factor in his lack of yardage...

    (although interesting to note that in 2011, the year AP was hurt, Percy really stepped up and nearly made that 1000 milestone - 967)

    As for his reputation as a malcontent ...

    I'm thinking he realizes if he so much as looked cross-eyed at Russell Wilson, he'd be tarred and feather and hung from the Space Needle  :P

  5. Regardless of the score.  This was a great showing by Canada.  In the end, the US depth really played a factor.

    But really, one hit in the eighth could have changed the outcome of the game.

    Congrats to Michael Saunders ...

    http://seattletimes.com/html/larrystone/2020531697_stone11.html

    Michael Saunders, the disappointment still fresh, sat at a table flanked by the MVP trophy that simply couldn't be denied him, even in defeat.

    "I think we showed the world that Canada is here to stay," he said.

    And, without a doubt, Saunders showed the world — or at least that portion of it that cares about baseball — that he is not only one of Canada's elite players, but perhaps poised to break out as one of the game's elite, regardless of nationality.

    ::::::

    Team Canada manager Ernie Whitt noted that Saunders' emerging talents, evident in last year's 19-homer, 21-stolen base breakout season with the Mariners, are obscured by playing in what he seems to regard as a baseball ghost town.

    "Playing in Seattle, they just don't have the media coverage," Whitt said. "But he's just a tremendous up-and-coming outfielder that's going to be a superstar."

    All that flattery was not foremost on Saunders' mind, however. He was truly bumming over having to part ways with his weeklong teammates.

    "It's going to be tough to leave these guys," he said. "Canadians and baseball, I always describe it as a tight fraternity. We may go our separate ways for a few years, but when we come back it's like we haven't skipped a beat.
