I guess I have not watched enough of Shuck. Not thinking he's "good" but not thinking he's "bad" either based on what I've seen. Maybe I'm blind.
-
Too bad Scioscia effed up Escobar's rehab and blew his arm out. That one was all on Scioscia.
-
He's made some highlight reels in the OF.
-
Why are some so down on Shuck? He hustles and makes a real effort every time I watch him. He's pretty much milk and toast, but at least he can hit for average, run, defend reasonably and not make bone headed plays.

I think the OP is making a great observation. How do you explain his one pretty good start this spring training? I wonder if he's just a head case, too.

The Angels intend to go with a 12-man staff. That means 7 relievers, with Burnett beginning the year (and probably much more) on the DL. You're likely looking at Frieri, Smith, Jepsen, DDLR and Kohn having their spots locked down. That last two spots will be a competition among lefties Maronde vs Moran and Blanton vs Salas.
Alvarez, LeBlanc and Shoemaker's strong springs essentially make Joe Blanton expendable. Is he higher than those guys on the depth chart? Sure. But circumstances dictate that Blanton's presence is unneeded.
I don't care what anyone says about the improvements to the BP, I'm not liking those 7. Kohn shit the bed more than once last season, Jepsen is a wild card, and so the additions are Maronde/Moran and Blanton/Salas? I'm about to shit the bed, too!

It would be foolish to not have a back up plan in case Richards repeats the beginning of last last season. That's my concern.
-
Late in the season, if it looks like they are getting tired AND it looks like post-season is going to happen..
Dipoto will pull off a couple more awesome trades.
Oh ye of little faith..be unconcerned.

Who was pretty good last year.
92 wins and a good offensive year, so I guess against pitching this is important to note. Hope Alvarez can repeat.
-
He was good last year; we need him. I think he'll be good to go after the season starts, maybe wayyy after it stars, but geezzz this sucks.
-
How many innings does anyone think he can go? Half of our starting rotation won't have the stamina to go all season.

I'm worried about what I'm seeing from Richards. Maybe the FO is, too, and that's why they are scrambling for back up plans.

My name is Ken, formally of Moorpark, CA, now living in Lake Placid, FL. I live an hour and a half South from Tampa Rays Ballpark. When the Angels play the Rays I will be there with my Angel Cap and Shirt cheering them on.
I blog on other sites. Sometimes my blogs can be quite controversial. I want to get my feet wet so here goes.
Angel Farm System is broken. It needs a major infusion of prospects PDQ. I have read other Angel Websites which the fans suggest to throw a 10 yr/$300 million contract for Mike Trout. I strongly believe the Angels should do the Tampa Ray way and trade Trout for bona fide Major League Ready Prospects. Tampa very possibly will trade David Price before the July 31st Deadline for prospects.
Any baseball player is one major injury away from hanging up their cleats. Just ask Mark Mulder.
I have to agree. I've been posting on sites for over a year now that we should just cash in Trout for a new farm. Haha, Trout farm...get it! But I know the folks here would go nuts. I've seen similar posts here before and the responses became very personal...eg., "are you an idiot"..."you are not a true fan" etc. Well, his value will never be as high as it is now and that is the same logic the fans here use to trade anyone else, for much less, I might add.
