BA only really looks at guys who'll be in the majors in less than a year when comparing farm systems. If you were to compare systems from the bottom up, the Angels would be ranked a lot higher.
-
I forgot about Heid. He's got a decent future ahead of him too.
-
So was Conger...
Pitching is what we need. Don't even think about drafting anything other than pitching at least till the 6th round. Gotta restock our system with some arms.
I don't follow your logic about Conger.
Because the Angels drafted a catcher in the first round when they supposedly needed one and he became a bust, that makes all catchers who are drafted in the first round when the Angels need one eventual busts?
-
Why in the world would we waste a #1 pick on a catcher?
Because he's a first round talent at a position the franchise is devoid of.
-
Are ANY of the current catchers in the system capable of eventually playing at least 90-100 games a season for the Halos?
Not IMO. And I don't consider Towey a catcher.
-
He did? .300 OBP and .774 OPS is nothing to write home about.
For a 4th outfielder who can bunt and play respectable defense? I've seen worse.
-
I'm guessing they're going to platoon him and Cowgill. My thinking is that they think Shuck isn't ever going to be an everyday player so it doesn't matter if he just plays part time.
That being said, I'd be baffled if they intend to play him, and not Long everyday at the ML level.
-
But that's cutting a big chunk out of our draft budget. I'm not sure that's a good idea with a system that needs help with depth.
If the price isn't right, they can get a sandwich pick for him in 2015.
-
We got a top 10 pick? Don't think he'll fall to us.
If he hires Boras as his agent, teams will shy away and he could fall to us, a la Weaver.
Pentecost isn't a terrible conselation prize and he'll end up in the majors before Jackson.
-
That's bullcrap. They need to be where they can help the team the most. Instead we get multiple starts for Stewart and Cowgill. How is that good for the Angels?
I'd be all for them coming up and playing everyday, but if they were to come up and sit the bench, it'd make them worse.
-
Players like Long and Green need to play everyday, ergo SLC.
-
Think about it. We have some respectable prospects at a lot of other positions.
In the near distance future I could see this
C - Jackson
1B - Hinkle/Snyder
2B - Green
3B - Cowart
SS - Rondon
OF - Fish
OF - Trout
OF - Borenstein
DH - Hinkle/Snyder
SP - Santiago
SP - Skaggs
SP - Richards
SP - Sappington
SP - Morris
There are a handful of future role-player types - Johnson, Yarbrough, Cron, Long, Hernandez, Bemboom, etc.
The only real obstacle in getting this is
1) Finding a way to get rid of Pujols and Hamilton. I can see desperate teams trading for Aybar, Kendrick, etc but they'll avoid Pujols and Hamilton like the plague b/c of their contracts. In that scenario, the Angels are going to have to bite the bullet and pay the remainder.
2) Making sure we don't trade these guys for rentals like Greinke or Freese.
For as bad as some of his transactions have been, Dipoto's drafts have been very good, all things considered.

Dental work?

Ianetta pulling a pitch two inches off the plate.

Green Acres isn't the place for me

Got the lead. Now it's time for the Angels offense to call it a night

So we ahve the pitcher leading off, then Trout hits 3rd this inning
Does anyone else remember the game Jarrod Washburn had 3 hits?
-
RISP situations = automatic outs.
At least this Jack in the Crack commercial makes me laugh
-
Ianetta wouldn't be hitting his body weight if he were a 6th grader
-
Frees hitting cleanup. Lord help us.

You realize that there's quite a variance between the top payroll and the middle payroll, don't you? "Upper half" covers a wide swath of money.
Seattle isn't in it, regardless.
-
I'm defining success as winning a World Series. So your defining success as anything in upper half.....

-
Payroll never correlates with teams success
The last 10 WS series winners have finished in the upper half of the bigs in terms of total payroll, and 19 of the last 21.
One area in which this franchise is not cursed.

Our female concession workers and female fans are also way hotter than any I've seen at all the other stadiums I've been to.
