Jepsen traded to TB for Matt Joyce

Very interesting. Like others, I wonder if this is a move before a bigger move or just a depth move. Insurance for Cron? Replacement for Hamilton? Calhoun and prospects for Cole Hamels (I can hope, right?)?

Why in the goddamn holy f*ck is everyone talking about trading Calhoun for?

Somebody spike the punch bowl??

They could just be DFAing Robertson or even Krauss. Could have just jumped on those two early on as insurance.

Maybe originally the Howie market wasn't looking strong, but once they got Heaney and were able to add to the pitching corps and essentially bump Santiago/Ramos/Rasmus into the pen, it made Jepsen expendable. Decided they now could improve upon Krauss or Robertson.

Upon further thought, I like this move.

If he's our primary DH, it's a clear upgrade over Cron this season.

And if we had to move a piece from somewhere, our BP was the place to do it. And if any one player could go, might as well have been Jepsen.

Good job JeDi

Angels sold high on Jepsen.  Joyce is a solid bat, though his lack of power from a corner OF spot is worrisome.  Consider this, they both had the same WAR last season, Jepsen had career bests in a majority of his stats, Joyce had a down year.  I think the Rays are selling low on Joyce and buying high on Jepsen.  Of course Joyce is a free agent at the end of the season while Jepsen is 2 seasons away from FA. Does Cron still have options? I hope the Angels stick him in the minors for most of the year, and not have him waste a year sitting on the bench for most of it.
