  1. A healthy Shohei Ohtani is a difference-maker on both sides of the ball By Robert Cunningham, Angelswin.com Senior Writer Note: What can I do here, everyone? Hope for Education is a small, targeted charity with a very specific fundraising goal and they are only a short way off from it. Again, I know some of you might be strapped for cash out there, I get it. But I am not asking for much, $5 is skipping a morning Starbucks run. Even $1, is one item less off the value deal menu at your favorite fast food joint. These kids deserve the opportunity to learn safely in this pandemic environ
  2. By Robert Cunningham, Angelswin.com Senior Writer Note: I am humbly requesting any donation (even one dollar!) you can make to the Angelswin.com Charity of the Month, Hope for Education! Every dollar can help, so please lend a hand if you are able! This part of the Primer Series will be difficult to write, at least this year. New GM Perry Minasian, despite his many years in baseball, is a wildcard in the main decision-making seat, which constrains our ability to construct an educated guess on team strategy. Bottom line is that we, at Angelswin.com, can only speculate
  3. By Robert Cunningham, Angelswin.com Senior Writer Ever since the Angels missed out on Cole, Strasburg, and Wheeler (not to mention Keuchel, Ryu, and Bumgarner), some Angels fans have been in panic mode, worried about what feels, to them, like a half-season of accomplishment (Rendon, Bundy, and Teheran), since we have not acquired a front-line starter yet. In the 2020 Angelswin.com Primer Series: Rotation, I advocated for a Cole signing as I felt it was the best application of resources in the free agent market to acquire a bonafide ace starter to be the tip of the spear in the Angels
  4. By Robert Cunningham, AngelsWin.com Senior Writer To classify this off-season as the most important one in Eppler's career, to-date, is not an understatement. Moreno has not yet publicly extended Billy's contract, which means 2020 is the last year under his current deal and he could be looking for a new position in the coming months if the off-season does not go as planned and/or the Angels get off to a terrible start in the upcoming season. On top of that Arte has expressed a clear need for this team to push itself into a new window of contention after years of languishing in m
  5. Watching the storied Red Sox and Dodgers face each other in an American League ballpark inspired me to make this thread. My apologies for beating a dead horse, but I still stand by the idea the Ohtani should DH to begin the game, warm up in the bullpen when the defense is on the field, and come in to the game in relief at the appropriate time. Perhaps this is not feasible in a 162 game regular season, but in a 4-7 game World Series? If you were the new Angels manager, how would you utilize Shohei Ohtani when he is fully healthy and on his game, as a pitcher and as a hitter?
  6. The Rays like to start the game with the bullpen often times (Sergio Romo). If they had Ohtani, I would imagine that for their home games in Tampa, they would start Romo for the top of the first and second, and pitch Othani starting the top of the third. Then Ohtani can hit for himself batting 9th. Unlikely Romo bats in the bottom of the first, unlikely extra innings happens if Ohtani pitches 6-7 innings and gets 2-5 at bats. Home field advantage. If the Angels did that for home games, I think Noe Ramirez would do well in the Sergio Romo role. Not necessary in September, but may
  7. Bullpen blowing games, continue down this path, or make a change?
  8. Fangraphs, known for any number of things, but especially for "ignore small sample sizes," managed to post this article today, a week and a half into the season. Shohei Ohtani had a decent week Choice quotes: "How were your last seven days at work? Did you meet demanding, perhaps even impossible, expectations? While performing in unfamiliar surroundings? In front of literally millions of expectant eyes?" "It’s not out of the realm of possibility that the most underpaid employee in the world is also its best baseball player. He’ll have to be better than his own teammate, M
