Bobster7587 reacted to drpiranha in Wildcard Tiebreaker Situation
As many may know, if there is a tie for the wildcard spot, there will not be a 1 game playoff. The Wildcard team will be determined by tiebreaker rules.
The 1st tiebreaker rule is head to head competition. The Angels won the season series against both Boston and New York, so a tie with either results in the Angels claiming the wild card spot.
Toronto won 2 of the 1st 3 games. A sweep for the Angels would be nice to give them the season series, but it is not necessary. The Angels just need to win 2 of 3 to tie the season series because the 2nd tiebreaker is your record inside your own division. The Angels are 11-9, so far in division. Toronto is a disastrous 7-20. Toronto would never make up that ground.
In case you are wondering about Seattle, the Angels won 4 of the 1st 6 games and have 7 games left, so the Angels need to win 3 of the last 7 games to claim the season series.

Trout actually says he prefers this. He said getting 2 days in a row off really is a good refresh.

I have actually thought about doing a story on days off, because everyone anyone is off I get so many comments like “why do they need a day off when they only play for three hours” or “why do they need a day off when they just had one last week.” Etc.
But then I think maybe it’s stupid because the people who don’t understand days off are probably such casual fans that they’re not reading my stories anyway.

Bobster7587 reacted to Docwaukee in Tom Verducci Exclusive Interview with Arte Moreno
I thought the article was really well done.
Lot's to digest here if we're going to deconstruct each and every word he said.  And we will.  I will
He didn't really say anything that was off brand by any stretch.  In fact, this was just more confirmation of the type of owner he is.  He wanted Trea Turner and apparently Minasian convinced him otherwise.  Gotta give some credit to Perry here as he seems to be the only GM so far who's been able to get Arte to do things the non Arte way.
But really it's the same stuff.  Arte loves baseball.  He wants to win.  He wants the fans to have a great experience.  He wants to be profitable.  He's gonna spend money.  All those things are great and should add up to a franchise that's kicking ass.  It's all the things we would expect to hear from any new owner had he sold the team.
The one thing that's continually absent from Arte's vocabulary is the importance of player development and the words farm system.  Maybe I'm reaching but if I'm an owner and we're talking about how to make and keep a franchise successful, that would be one of my primary talking points.
He made a non-specific comment about how if he were going to keep the team that they 'have to do better'.  I don't know what that means but hopefully it means all the things that we've talking about like having a proper infrastructure, focus on the farm and development, not meddling or knee-jerking decisions due to emotion, and so on and so forth.
There's a semblance of that with giving Perry more control and more money.  But that could be short lived if the team isn't in contention come July.  And all he'll be thinking about is how they should have signed Trea Turner.
If they don't make the playoffs, they lose ohtani and perry probably gets fired.  And we're starting all over again.  I really want to see what Minasian can do with a few seasons of similar control.

Bobster7587 reacted to Chuck in Arte Moreno talks to NY Post
Everything you posted is true. While I dislike both reporters, I got to give kudos when it's due as Heyman was at least able to get an Arte Moreno interview and his thoughts about Ohtani.
It would have been a much better "Exclusive interview" if he got him to talk more about why he didn't sell the team.
