That’s the thing… Arte may very well say no.

I am expecting either the same payroll or a modest increase to remain "competitive" during the sale period.  I can't imagine anyone or group interested in purchasing the Angels interested in having Arte limiting the teams competitiveness.  I think maintaining status quo is the best business plan for Arte and probably the most inviting option for prospective buyers.  Of course, I've never spent a couple of billion dollars so I actually have no idea about any of this.

I just want to watch the Angels play in the playoffs.

Do you guys know how many teams have scored fewer runs than the Angels this season?

I had a thought but it was backed up when I chose to look it up.

Still don't know? Look it up.

The Bullpen was not our undoing, the offense was.

    It's silly to think differently!

Respect to the originator because I agree with him almost always, but this time the narrative of his thread is obviously flawed.

Having Loup and Tepera being consistently used negates most leads.  However, the primary reason for a dismal season is sitting in the front office. Minasian has been impressive during his short tenure.

While I definitely agree with you, it feels like they've been pretty solid this past month or so.  We can certainly use some pen upgrades, but perhaps they are turning the corner now as a unit?

There are some pretty good looking arms in AA as well, so maybe there is some room for optimism.  What I hope Minasian will do is what some of the other top GMs in the game do - find undervalued relievers and make them good.

I think @Jeff Fletcher mentioned it in another thread too, but something that would help our pen a lot is actually a better offense.  Our pen has had to hold the slimmest of leads for long stretches of time, simply because our offense doesn't score.

More specific to a better offense, having league average replacement production from hitters 5-9 would make a huge impact.  Having a hitting philosophy incorporating "productive outs" as well as putting the ball in play where it is pitched would also hugely help.

Yeah - as I mentioned upthread, there really is no harm/downside to this.  Usually, teams don't want to call up players and have to burn an option prematurely, but for O'Hoppe, he'll stay up for the remaining 8 games and finish the year with his 3 options.  He was going to be added to the 40-man roster this offseason, so why not let him play and get a few reps?  I would fully expect him to start next year in AAA, though.

What's interesting to me though is this continues a trend of players being promoted directly from AA, instead of going to AAA - Silseth, Whitefield, Soto, O'Hoppe, etc .. I don't follow other MLB franchises as closely - do other teams do this too?  It seems a bit unusual to have so many just skip AAA.

Could be because other teams have a front office capable of finding talent. The Angels don't resulting in AAA team that looks more like an independent baseball team.
