I'm GUESSING the thinking with Syndergaard is  there was a lot of doubt if he would be successful after his surgery. If he was fantastic, they would try to extend him. If he sucked, he would be dropped after the year. If he was kind of average, they could shop him mid-season for something more promising than a 2nd round pick. The latter is what happened and we ended up with Jadiel Sanchez and Moniak (which is better than a 2nd round pick.

The difference here (with Snell) is if he were fantastic, he won't extend the contract. However, you could still trade him mid season for more value than a 2nd round pick.

I thought we got Moniak in a trade for Marsh.

He has a sacrifice fly.  They don't count when calculating batting average, but they do count as a plate appearance when calculating on base percentage.  He doesn't have any walks or hit-by-pitch to boost his OBP, so when you calculate it, his OBP ends up lower than BA because of the sac fly.

That makes sense.  Thanks for that.  I always assumed a sac fly didnt count as an atbat or a plate appearance.

I’m glad I don’t live in SoCal. Being from Texas, I’m not nearly as upset about him signing cross-town (other than the fact he didn’t sign with the Angels) so feeling for y’all Dodger haters.

I’m bummed because Ohtani was entertaining even if the Angels were not. Losing was more palatable knowing I was watching something that happens once a century. Would’ve warmly welcomed him back, but do think that contract, regardless of deferrals, is gonna hurt at some point and I’m happy I won’t see Ohtani start to age and struggle (and ultimately receive fan grumbling) as an Angel.

    So begins the… O’Hoppe era?

I live in Texas now as well.  Im glad I dont have to drive the freeways and see billboards with Ohtani in a Dodgers uni.  I do have to suffer through friends bringing up the Rangers winning the WS at least once a week.

I find Swanson interesting to talk about because of how much he's gonna get paid because of how much WAR he produces and his age.  He hits the ball hard when he makes contact but contact is generally a problem for him.   Another fun tidbit is that he is the 3rd most shifted RHed hitter in baseball over the last three years and while he was very good vs. the shift this year, he's characteristically been worse when shifted during that time.

BTW, Renfroe was the 10th most shifted RHer.

I'm on the fence regarding Swanson but I think with MLB banning the shift we should only see his number improve or am I interpreting that wrong?  I'm more of a lurker and lean on yall for analysts. HA!  The strikeouts are concerning.

  5. I'm not ready to give up on Adell but for the life of me I cant figure out how he is this bad in the OF.  I don't know if more reps is going to help him become passable on def.  He is missing balls that high school kids wouldn't have a problem with.
