Every GM knows he will be fired or moved up the management chain. In the Angels organization there is no VP of Baseball Operations and that makes being a GM a more volatile position and forces them to cater to the owner moreso than other clubs. You could say being the GM of the Angels is the hardest job in baseball.

Grading Minasian's work is, as @Inside Pitch mentioned, a balance between what he can or can't do through Moreno's ownership. And those grades really require at least five years to see if what he is doing creates a long term organizational stability or a continuation of the last ten years of driving all success through free agency acquisitions instead of drafting and development.

Eppler got the ball rolling, there is Fletcher, Walsh, Ohtani, Thaiss, Marsh, Adell and Rengifo in trade. But all of those guys are years apart in development, Ohtani being the unicorn.

Minasian boosted that group through draft and trade getting O'Hoppe, Neto, Moniak, and Schanuel. And they are playing and developing under the best coaching staff since Scioscia's group. The results may take time to see if Minasian hit big on the lottery or got a few scratcher payouts to buy more tickets.

Minasian is working hard to rebuild internally with some decent draft pick positions and put the brakes on wasting them on free agency, making some other team stronger through our draft picks. Is he successful? Ask me in 2026 because that's a five plus one time frame where the team should be complete and competitive.  If they are not then you can say Minasian failed.

    100% spot on!

  2. I use Youtube tv during the football season (because of the NFL package)then switch to DIRECTV stream during the Baseball season (so I can watch the Halos on Bally’s).

Hopefully one day we’ll have more and better options.

I actually found out last year that Mark Langston moved to Nashville and broadcasted games last season for the radio from Tennessee. lol

I'm going to have to connect with him so we can go get a beer or something.

That's cool that he's not that far from you but honestly I hate that these announcers aren’t in the ballpark (where the games are being played).

  4. For me the 70’s and 80’s were the best years for baseball in general as far as MLB I’d pick the 80’s and the style/brand of baseball played then. Really loved those teams like the Royals and then Cardinal teams, gave me an appreciation for the small ball aspect of the game emphasizing Speed, pitching and defense, base running, stolen bases etc….

The Angels had a fun team to follow during the 80’s as well (Carew, Jackson, Grich, Downing just to name a few) managed by Gene Mauch. Really came close in 82 then again in 86. Loved those teams.

Can you imagine if the Angels had this lineup and rotation in any given season:

    Lineup

    1B Darin Erstad (2000)

    CF Mike Trout (2012)

    RF Vladimir Guerrero (2004)

    DH Shohei Ohtani (2023)

    3B Troy Glaus (2000)

    LF Don Baylor (1979)

    2B Bobby Grich (1979)

    C Mike Napoli (2009)

    SS Jim Fregosi (1964)

Bench: Chone Figgins (2007), Wally Joyner (1987), Tim Salmon (1995), Garret Anderson (2002), Lance Parrish (1990), David Eckstein (2002)

    Starting Pitching

    Nolan Ryan (1973)

    Dean Chance (1964)

    Frank Tanana (1977)

    Shohei Ohtani (2022)

    Jered Weaver (2011)

    Closer: Francisco Rodriguez (2004)

Bullpen: Troy Percival (1996), Scot Shields (2003), Bryan Harvey (1991), Donnie Moore (1985), Chuck Finley (1990)

No doubt about it, the Halos have had a lot of Great players.

Big reason why I’ve been a fan since I was a kid, they’ve always had a great player to watch and root for (no matter what decade it was)…..

Did Soto suck that much last year? Obviously small sample, but he looked great in his time with the big league club previously. The team does not have a lot of guys who can truly handle shortstop with the glove.

My concern is if Neto goes on the DL there isn’t any options on the roster to cover SS defensively.
Rengifo can cover for a day or two but not sure we want him covering SS for an extended period of time.

I agree. Load up on guys like him, but don't stop there. Grab a couple more proven guys for the bullpen please.

I'm still on the side of going after a DH only type bat like JD Martinez. You don't keep that DH spot open for Trout and Rendon. You just those two some days off to keep them fully off their feet unless they're needed late in the game for pinch hitting duties on their days off.

JD Martinez would be a great get but I think a they need a left-handed power to balance the lineup.

  8. Yep, really happy with this move (I know most if not all of us wanted Moore back).

As far as the bullpen goes, this has been a great offseason (IMO).

Now I’d like to see a lefty power bat added and a starting pitcher.

Also need someone off the bench who could play shortstop for an extended period of time (if Neto goes on the DL).
