And Fulmer has shown a willingness to take the ball even with limited rest.

I would keep Fulmer over Suarez. Suarez has shown himself to have no value. He has no roster flexability for the team or any other team at this point. Fulmer provides roster flexibility and has pitched much better. Should be an easy call.

well, Eppler could've kept Bailey and Ecker by offering them the promotions they were getting in other orgs, but he decided to stick with Callaway/Wise as pitching coach and Reed as hitting coach.
Though, yes, Arte's lack of investment in PD is a factor.

I’m not. If they want to save some money for a HS pitcher later, as you suggested, then do it with the 2nd round and comp picks.
IMO, there’s a clear cut off in talent after 8-10. So lock in one of those top talents, then you can start playing around with your bonus pool.

Placencia starting in Single-A is weird, and I still don’t know why he was demoted.
That can’t be a good sign for his standing in the org.

You say it’s fairly common, but then go on to cite a nearly 15 year old contract as the example.
I don’t think it’s that common, and the inclusion of the option is a pretty good indicator they knew his health wasn’t 100%.

BTH reacted to EDinTUSTIN in OC Register: Angels encouraged by Jose Soriano’s development as a starter
I am looking forward to seeing Soriano's next start. He flat-out has great stuff. Will that translate to long-term success at this level? Time will tell, but I liked what I've seen for the most part. If he can control that great stuff that he has and develops the requisite stamina to go at least 7 innings, the future could be bright for this young man -- and in turn, for the Angels as well.

We don't actually know if that is a "strength" yet, though.  Have Detmers, Neto, and Schanuel (as well as Silseth and Mederos) gotten to the majors quickly?  Absolutely.  Do we know yet how strong any of them will be overall?  Not really.  Detmers is close to truly establishing himself, but I think the jury is still out on the others.  Of course, that's natural, since they're all recent draftees.  But I think it'll be another 2-3 years before we know for sure if the strategy is a good one.

BTH got a reaction from Wisconsin27 in OC Register: Angels maintain faith in struggling rookie Nolan Schanuel
Using Estévez there was the right call. He was already getting ready anyway, he hadn’t pitched in a few days, and the other options (Strickland, Cisnero) aren’t the most trustworthy.
If they were in a similar situation tonight, maybe you don’t use him because then he’d be unavailable tomorrow. But you use him then.

Maybe Schanuel is not a major league player but just a AAA at best. Maybe Sano is a player u can keep for 4 or 5 years at first base. This is not AYSO soccer performance counts show u belong not just given the job.

BTH reacted to Second Base in AngelsWin Today: Los Angeles Angels 2024 Top-10 Prospects Feature
Hey guys, as far as the FV goes, there were two main factors that went into the discrepancies.
    1. FV can be affected by likelihood of reaching the majors and even proximity. For example, I really don’t think you can put a 45 FV on Ben Joyce. Because I don’t see any middle ground with him. Either he figures it out and you have a 60+ FV reliever out he doesn’t and he’s a 40.

    2. Regardless of FV, it isn’t my own personal list. A lot of guys put in their time and offered their valuable input toward this, so my own assessment of FV doesn’t necessarily reflect everyone’s opinion. I think just an example, @Angelsjunky had some disagreement on Kyren Paris if I’m not mistaken, so that FV probably doesn’t reflect his view on Paris, which is ok.
    3. The FV can be a reflection of my own prospect optimism, which I’ve got a rep for. Truth be told, I think of the whole bunch, we’ve probably got 4 solid big leaguers and a collection of other guys that might get a cup of coffee, that’s about it.

Sorry if that throws you guys off.

BTH reacted to redoctober2002 in Trout's risp average broken down by year.
So it's not quite the same splits, but I went to Fangraphs and created a splits leaderboard with the following conditions:
Dates: 3-1-2016 to present   Inning: 8, 9, or Extras   Leverage Index: High, so LI of 2 or greater. Chart for reference of Leverage Indexes   Minimum of 50 plate appearances
This left a total of 360 qualifying players. Trout ended up ranking 43rd in wRC+ with a value of 144 (44 percent better than average). The top player was Justin Smoak with a wRC+ of 215 followed by Kyle Tucker at 200.
Some interesting names and their rankings:
    Name                   wRC+  Rank
    Bryce Harper       183      6
    Aaron Judge        166      11
    Juan Soto            163      13
    Shohei Ohtani      137      55
    Mookie Betts       130      72
    Kyle Schwarber     17      351

    Link for reference.

I'm about 5 minutes in and there have been plenty of weak ground outs, fly outs to end the game, some walks, singles (infield, doinks, solid contact). Had a game tying homerun.
If he got on base via a hit and there was a man on base already, he didn't score. Which I am okay with since he didn't produce an out and extended the inning. The only frustrating part was the announcer would then make the comment "...and that will bring up Pujols." That didn't inspire a lot of confidence.
Glad Inside Pitch could provide some much needed perspective.

The funny thing about this story, in my opinion, is Sam Blum was apparently so locked in on watching the “Calling all Angels” video on Saturday and Sunday that he was able to determine they edited that part out.

Checked out a couple of our young players in the MiLB.
    Here's my scoop:
    1. Huerto's a promising one! He's gonna rise up the ranks, especially once he hits AA, which I think will happen soon. His fastball sits around 95 to 98 mph, and he handles it well, plus his slider is a real nice plus with a sweet break. He's still working on a third pitch, but I noticed he was testing out a cutter yesterday. Could be a diamond in the rough for our team.
    2. Kent had a tough time finding the strike zone last night, issuing 6 walks in just 4 innings. But the potential is sky-high with him. Despite the walks, he only gave up 2 hits. And let me tell you, his fastball? It's got some serious movement to it.
