This is a very well said and articulate post! But the gist is that he's no Mike Scioscia or any anyone else that played or managed for both the Angels and Dodgers? Because he's a foreigner? Joe Blanton? Jeff Weaver? I'm sure there is many more that I'm missing. Darin Erstad???? Edit: upon further investigation Erstad never played for the Doyers...amazingly he did play for the Halos for 10 years after that first amazing season! Ok, so who else played for Angels and Doyers...make it a fun thing.

My first reaction to this was that it was a absurd signing, and it is still an absurd amount of money. But consider. 1. It's the Dodgers whom are ran by a corporation. 2. The dodgers are getting the greatest and the most marketable player possibly in the history of sports. 3.The Dodgers are a smart organization. 4. Shohei Ohtani in the LA proper market at this point is absolute GOLD...tickets for the Dodgers will be at an absolute premium, akin to the Lakers team of the past. 5. Deferred money! 6. CA taxes...u gotta pay athletes more to sign in CA 7. Inflation. Even if SO turns into a albertatross in 5 years, this contract might not look so bad in 5 years. 8. World Series, I predict SO will help the Dodgers win a WS title in the next few years. 9. SO will prob go into the HOF as a Dodger. 10. And the most important thing from the standpoint of the Dodgers org. Shohei Ohtani is an absolute marketing beast at this point and will probably remain very lucrative thru out his career esp in the LA area...he's literally a gold mine! Did I miss anything? It's still an absurd contract!

I agree to some extent, but I think a lot of teams would have gone to a 6 man to accommodate him possibly the Dodgers in 25...so does this mean he owes the Angels something? If the reports of him asking not to be traded at the deadline with him having the knowledge that he would not be resigning with the team....then he deserves some vitriol. I don't know if this is the case. You raise valid points. .

Can we all agree that Salmon, Weaver etc "loyalty" came under a different regime that was winning and considered a good franchise. Times have changed.

The bottom line with this situation is that Arte was just outclassed by a first class organization that wins a lot of baseball games and hasn't devolved into a shit show like the Angels have.

Loyalty is earned like respect. IMO Arte did nothing to earn Ohtani's loyalty and it appears SO is of the same mindset. The team went to a 6 man rotation to accommodate SO...BFD!
