Fish Oil reacted to Angels 1961 in OC Register: José Soriano dominates in Angels’ shutout of White Sox
I do not care if it was girls softball he pitched against. No BB and 71 pitches in 6 inn is impressive. Put him in minors to start season to be a starter. I do not put him back in BP and bounce him from pen to starter. It's a long season but maybe a trade happens. Many teams need starters and Anderson could go.

Imanaga has already started cooking for himself and learning how to listen to English. He has been nicknamed "The Throwing Philosopher" due to the expressiveness of his statements.
Bauer was given the contrasting nickname "The Throwing Scientist" by some BayStars fans because he answered his teammates' questions from an engineering perspective.

Worth pointing out, though, that Ward's is based on a really good 2022, followed by a barely above league average 2023 which concluded with a significant injury. Before 2022, Ward was that same slightly-better-than-league-average player or worse. Arozarena had an amazing 2020 (only 23 games, though) followed by 3 full of seasons of a consistent 125ish wRC+. Ward *could* be around there, but calling Arozarena a fraction better feels extremely generous to Ward until he proves he can rebound to that level.

This is basically the open and shut point.  He’s very young.  The Angels aren’t exactly a pitching factory.  I am excited to have him.  I genuinely think he’s going to be a real good pitcher for us.

wheres that guy that fixed him last year? It wasn’t fucking Matt Wise.

    Hi All,
I haven't been posting in awhile.  I'm sorry to hear the terrible news.
The first few years I posted as bruinman74 and considered Lou like an older Bruin brother.  When I met him he did a comic hero pose, and said Bruin-MAN.  He got it.
He will be greatly missed.  I'm sorry for everyone's loss.  It's such a major loss to this community there aren't sufficient words to describe it.  Thank you Lou.

I like what Urshela did with the Angels but I'm rather concerned that with a fractured pelvis he is going to lose a lot of power and hitting ability. The more I think of it this could well still be a problem with Rendon who had hip surgery 2 years ago and has never looked the same. Especially with his power dropping like a rock off a cliff.....

I've seen a lot of comments castigating Detmers' performances this year and posing the idea that the guy just isn't good enough. I have to ask, what is wrong with you people?
Reid Detmers is just 23 years old and has started a sum total of 55 games in professional baseball. That includes all his minors starts and comes out to 268 innings in total. Gerrit Cole pitched 200 innings in the minors before even being called up, Reid pitched just 68.
Give the guy a break and give him time to learn his trade. He is far from the finished article and with the stuff he has, once the penny drops for him he's got a great chance of becoming a damn fine pitcher.

With teams falling over themselves to get Gary Sanchez, I guarantee Matt Thaiss has created some excess value for himself. This job obviously still belongs to Logan O'Hoppe given his overall game, but Matt Thaiss is clearly playing himself into a major league job.
Even if Stassi comes back, I think he's done with the Angels. O'Hoppe-Thaiss is a potent combination.
The only concerns I have (which are good concerns to have) are...
    1. Can Matt Thaiss hit in a part time role? He seems like the sort that needs consistent at bats.
    2. What do they do when Edgar Quero arrives toward the end of next season? I don't envision them carrying three catchers, particularly when one (O'Hoppe) will command an everyday spot with his across the board talent. Do Thaiss or Quero move off the position (certainly possible) or will they deal one?

It's a 4-seamer. The other pitch he threw (that he allowed the hit on) was a cutter.

No. A cutter goes to the glove side.

Based on the arm-side movement I would say those were two seamers but I will ask about it.

his fastball was filthy! that movement and he was hitting the corners. If he can maintain that velo and control he's going to dominate!

Was clocked as high as 105 in college -- came back from TJ throwing pure heat.  His secondary stuff was meh, and his showing yesterday makes a case for baseball to use the same ball in the minors as they do in MLB because he's never shown as much in any of his minor league appearances as he did yesterday.  He's always shown velocity, but there was a lot more movement than usual yesterday.

    @Jeff Fletcher
    Is Joyce’s fastball a 4-seam or 2-seam fastball?
Savant initially classified it as a sinker, but changed it to a four-seam. It rises like a four-seamer but gets run like a two-seamer.
    Wondering what Joyce says.
