Zero reason for him to be in the montage to begin with.

I mostly agree, but our first pick should be another fast riser, as there aren't too many and one should fall to us (either a hitter like JJ or a pitcher). There are a lot of 1B, but we have Schanuel.

After that, I mostly agree on power arms, but Caldwell could be another interesting pick. He's a bit undersized, but in some ways reminds me of El Rojo, who just made the team better. A good combination of speed, power, contact, and defense.

After a polished college player I'd focus on some.power HS arms to create another wave of pitching talent. With the staff we have, and the players in development, we can afford to take higher end HS players l create another wave of talent.

Please post anything and send everything related to the 2024 amateur draft in here. Anything from mock draft picks for the Angels and scouting reports to draft strategies and signing bonuses.
Personally, with our first oick, we can draft JJ Wetherholt to be a lefthanded 2B to go with our young core. I think he could zip through our system, ev n with the time he's missed with a hamstring issue (hell, the fact that he's had a hamstring issue already makes him fit in with us already! Just kidding).
    Here's a profile on JJ:

My strategy for the draft would be to focus on a finished college hitter with our first pick and then with our supplemental picks and in the second and third rounds, go after some high school players.
This draft is considered to be generally weak, especially with college pitching and high school players in general. However, there are some good finds there, and with a few players moving up the boards a bit, I think that a polished college bat should be available to us. At worst, one of the better college arms should be available for us to take.
After getting a more polished college player with our first pick with our supplemental picks and 2nd and 3rd round, I'd go after HS players to add a new layer of development for us.
One player that I'm keeping an eye on is Slade Caldwell for our Shohei pick. He's a bit undersized, so he could fall to us in a supplemental round.
    Here's a profile on him.

I just realized that in years past I was only really interested in wins and losses.
This year, I'm legitimately interested in watching a bunch of guys on the team play.  I also like Ron and haven't liked either of our last two managers.
And I'm sorta over the whole Ohtani thing.
I'm ready to see a team that's decent to good at pretty much all positions.
Going back ten years, I would say that I enjoyed watching Trout and Ohtani of course, but outside of that there were very few.  Howie, Richards, Shoemaker, Simmons and that's about it.
This year I will want to see Neto, O'Hoppe, Schanuel, Rengifo, Trout, Ward, Sandoval, Detmers, Soriano, Drury, Canning, and a few others.
They might not win enough to make the playoffs, but I like this team.

EdmontonAngelsFan reacted to Turd Ferguson in Angels remain over luxury tax, but Minasian says it will not impact 2024 spending
I may be in the minority here, but I really don't mind not spending this offseason. I don't think this team is a FA or even 2 away from being competitive. And I don't think any FA available this winter, outside of Shohei, had the ability to substantially alter the team. We have been burned too many times by signing the same caliber of FA that was available this winter to exorbitant contracts.
Now, if this becomes the new norm rather than a 2024-specific strategy, then I have a problem.

The bolder, the better.  Put it on the line and see what comes of it.
    1. Logan O'Hoppe is an all-star - Fan voting produces ridiculous results, but I think O'Hoppe's numbers will be strong enough that any bias can be overcome.
    2. Nolan Schanuel wins Rookie of the Year - Wyatt Langford is going to be an elite outfielder and Future Hall of Famer in 20 years.  There, I said it.  But even the best (Mike Trout), have a steep learning curve.  So Langford will eventually be sent down before returning later in the year and will be productive.  The Orioles are going to manipulate Holliday's service time.  Evan Carter is legit and will be a fantasy darling for years to come, but he's young and he's going to be platooned.  Yet Schanuel, is going to be with the Angels the full season, will be in the lineup regardless of pitcher and will also be hitting in a prime spot in the lineup.  That's something most rookies don't get the benefit of the doubt on.  Schanuel hits .290/.400 with 90 runs and 20 HR.
    3. Mike Trout is healthy for 150 games, and isn't GREAT, but still really good - Just learning how to handle yourself as you age, plus the benefit of DH whenever he needs it, will keep Trout in the lineup.  No, he won't be the 10-win player he was.  But he'll still be a 6-7 win player and all-star.
    4. Chase Silseth is their best starting pitcher, and that's a good thing and a bad thing - I just don't think the Angels pitching staff is going to be that great.  They'll be consistent, but consistently mediocre.  In the simplest of terms, they allow too many base runners and too many timely hits.  But Silseth will continue to learn to move the ball around and generate weak contact.
    5. The Angels have a top 5 bullpen - This comes down to sheer numbers.  Yeah Estevez and Stephenson can be great.  Soriano too, if he's not starting.  But beyond that, having guys like Garcia, Moore, Soriano, Joyce and more on the way working in lower leverage relief, puts the Angels in a position that they'll always have someone capable of stepping into a role.
    6. The Angels finally begin to sell pieces off - Despite having a healthy season from Trout the progression from their youngsters, the Angels still won't be int he playoff hunt, come the trade deadline.  Rengifo, Hicks, Ward, Drury, Sandoval and Estevez all finish the season on other teams, and the Angels begin to stock their farm.
    7. Trout asks for a trade in November, but nothing will come of it - The Angels entering their rebuild, and Trout entering his age 33 season with no team success to speak of, will finally yield its logical conclusion.  He'll want out.  Yet the fact remains, any team acquiring him is going to be paying him 37 million per year for his mid-30's.  That's the part of the contract teams are willing to tolerate when they get that same player for 20 million a year in his late 20's.  Trout obviously isn't in his late 20's.  Some teams will kick the tires, like the Phillies, but no team is going to take over that contract AND send prospects the Angels direction, which is what they'd want.  So Trout will stay put.
    8. Rendon isn't very good, but he also won't be released - Partly because he has a NTC, partly because no team wants him, and partly because he fills a position that the Angels otherwise wouldn't have anyone to fill, beyond the trade deadline.
    9. Jo Adell is spends most of the season on the bench - The Angels don't want to lose him for nothing, so he'll just sit there and play maybe once a week, not doing much, at least until the trade deadline.  Ward and Hicks will be dealt and Adell will take over.  And ultimately, the end result is the same, low OBP, lots of power and speed.
    10. Arte Moreno puts the team back on the market next winter.

My son definitely loves baseball, but he's as sick of the Angels as I am. We are traveling a lot this year and plan to go to games at other ballparks. I'm not putting any more money into the team until Arte sells or they put a winning product on the field.

I think Trout has made it pretty clear what he thinks.
And I wouldn't think Perry would be likely to publicly say "I wanted to sign more players but my boss said no." However, I think we can assume that's the case.

pretty unfortunate we as fans have to suffer through what… 14-15 years now of a subpar product, because Arte Moreno and the constant carousel at GM make poor player personnel decisions.

There was 1 way to be decently competitive this year and it was to spend some money. And then he decides this is the year he grabs his check book and goes home?

even if rebuilding the farm and not losing a draft pick was the goal, there were ways to go about showing the fans and Mike Trout we are still commited to a playoff pursuit. (JD Martinez, Davis, etc)

I really don’t understand why he insists on making everyone suffer, just sell the team.

Arturo is such a dbag. Sell the damn team. We’ve gone from wasting trout to wasting trout and ohtani back to wasting trout. I’m guessing Perry doesn’t come back even if asked. This reeks of arte pulling the budget.
