while i appreciate your optimism, this team has too many holes to be a serious contender, even for a wild card spot. it's a year for growth and improvement from the younger players so that a year from now, there are fewer holes and they might attract some quality free agents along the way. i'd consider this season a huge success if they finished .500.

i picked the reds to win the NL Central. i'm guessing this series will give them a big push in that direction.

adell may be the worst baserunner to ever play for this team.

Jeff Carter has decided to retire. He'll go down as one of all time favorite players. Great skater, great hands, great shot. Came up big in the Stanley Cup Finals in '12 and '14. We don't win either Cup without him. Thank you, Jeff.

it certainly sounds possible. no doubt there's probably a pretty fine legal line about what information they can release publicly, but it seems like they would have said something by now, or that someone else would have found information (like TMZ who always seems to be ahead of the game on a lot of this stuff).

i would add bartolo colon, jose gullen, and kelvim escobar to the good list as far as production is concerned. guillen crashed and burned in his relationship with scioscia, but he was a good player when he wasn't being a knucklehead.

i think bauer has a legit legal claim based on how the league has treated former dodger pitcher, julio urias along with ozuna. urias has been arrested twice for DV, serving a 20 game suspension after his 2019 arrest and being suspended for the rest of the '23 season (there's the potential for a longer suspension if he signs with a team). i think the strength of bauer's case is that he was was suspended so severely in comparison to other players in a similar situation, but they ended up serving a smaller suspension after being found guilty, while bauer served a much longer suspension while having the chargers dismissed (someone who's better at wording this legally may want to take a crack at the point i'm trying to make). the fact that bauer is a doosh or is unlikeable shouldn't have been a factor in his punishment, but it sure seems like it was.
