That's true, but that's because he got off to a very slow start, and then fixed everything. 
He had an ERA of 7.61 on May 24 after 10 starts. He'd allowed 40 ER in those ten starts in 47.1 IP.
He allowed 43 ER in the remaining  140.1 IP for a 2.76 ERA.

And while undeniably tragic (each time it has happened), the walk off grand slam sent the organization into a tailspin that resulted in a 10 year anchor of a contract. 

I just love "the sky is falling" folks. 
Like one minute, the Angels are being aggressive and are on track to win the offseason, and then a few big names sign elsewhere and Arte sucks. The Angels had the 7th largest payroll in 2021, I expect them to be right there again in 2022.
If the offseason ends up being say: Syndergaard, Loup, Lorenzen, Iglesias, Story, and Castillo or Sonny Gray, would you all be upset?

15/22/25/28/28/2M buyout. With a $5M signing Bonus. 
That's $20M paid out this year, but it helps our tax to structure it this way. Leaves room for a SS add and to add Iglesias.
 
 

Let me be clear, it helps our tax down the line, when they have to pay Syndergaard and Ohtani, as they pay him $28, but the tax says it's 24.6.

Personally, if we miss out on Stroman Im gonna be pissed. I prefer him to Ray, but Ill be pleased to get either.
Neither would be ridiculous.

While I would like Castillo, I do think it would cost one of our young OF and one of our starters or maybe two. Don’t know if I like that price.

If Castillo becomes a halo, the Angels don’t need Cobb.  That money would go to shortstop.

Portland makes more sense than Vegas. Vegas Metro. It’s not as hot, so you don’t have to build completely indoor just a retractable roof. 2.7 M people vs. 2.2M metro areas… and they wouldn’t be competing with other teams and groups of teams. The 51’s draw just ok but I know that Portland’s AAA team was replaced with a MLS team. They have an NBA team too and no other pro sports.
They’d really support their teams, too. Anyone who remembers how good those crowds were for those Blazers teams when they were good knows that. 
 
Nashville, Montreal, are other good options. But if they can get a deal done in Oakland it’s likely the best

3.02 ERA is a #3? He’s a solid #2 guy.

Iglesias really made the entire defense poor in the infield. And having injuries in the OF pushed Pujols into regular duty at 1st in the first month. Rendon’s absence for the majority made 3rd an issue too.
With Fletcher, Rendon and Walsh, if they have a good defensive guy at SS they’ll be ok. Wade, Davis are excellent supposedly and Rengifo is a pretty good defender. I just worry about their offense

5/110 to 6/156 is my comfort range.

Their initial bench last year was moved into the starting lineup in the second half and even then almost none of the guys they were playing would be on my projected bench for 22. 
 
I think they need to add in the middle infield unless they are gonna give the job to Davis and he hits. Rengifo struggled with the bat. But he, Mayfield and Wade are good infielder bench I guess and Thaiss as backup C plus Ward and Upton is a good bench. If Rengifo is the starter and Wade the backup, uh oh but I like Wade, Thaiss and Ward as the primary bench pieces. Especially if Davis wins the SS job and hits.
