Hubs got a reaction from AngelsLakersFan in AngelsWin Today: Considering the Relative Importance of Angels players (for 2022)
For context...Who were the highest trio's of the past ten or twenty years?
Bonds, Schmidt, and Kent in 2002 is the highest I can find at 23.8 (fWAR).
Bonds did the heavy-lifting there with 11.9.
I can see Trout having a comeback of sorts and posting a 2018 year or even better (9.6), Ohtani improving over 2021 (8.1), and Rendon coming close to his 2019, (7.0), which would be 24.7 if repeated.
What if Trout and Ohtani both did near 10, (10.1 and 9.4 say) and Rendon was at his 2019-2020 pace, (7.0)
Would that be the highest of the modern era?

ERA is results, FIP is how good he was actually pitching. But Results do matter. However, when you see a big discrepancy in ERA and FIP, like with say Teheran, it should be a red flag. Is it luck?
Not one stat is an end all be all.
I like WHIP honestly, especially for relievers.

    In 289 AB.
He's a 3-4 WAR player if he plays full-time. I wonder if he's at 2nd and Fletcher is at SS or vice versa with Wade as the primary (and left handed) backup.

Except here. His tenure in Boston didn't go well, but he was decent.

Is he the guy he was in 2014 and 2015? No. Could we maybe get 2013 out of him?
He was also ok in the pen, seems like he'd be a good counterpart to Lorenzen. One in the pen and one as a starter...

Ward was injured in late July and missed 6 weeks, and had stretches of ups and downs throughout his playing time in May-June and late September.
    Why he'll make the team:
He is the only 1st baseman on the projected roster other than Walsh. He's Right Handed, so it's a decent fill in for Walsh against super tough lefties there. Can play the OF. I think Marsh may start at AAA. I know it's not popular, but if Upton has a good spring, he's gonna play, and then one of Adell and/or Marsh sits. Ward can come off the bench and play a little 1st, a little RF or LF, a little 3rd and even C in a pinch. That's versatility this lineup needs.
He does have an option remaining.
If Upton has a terrible spring, who knows. Then you figure Marsh/Adell is in Right and Adell/Upton in left. Not really room for Ward.
But then you have the infield of Rendon, Walsh, Fletcher, a SS, and Wade. Wade doesn't have an option unlike Velazquez, Rengifo, and Rojas do. He's also eligible for arbitration. He'll be on the roster.
With a 6 man rotation including Ohtani and an 8 man pen, that's only 12 spots for other offensive players.
Trout, Rendon, Walsh, Fletcher, Stassi, Suzuki, Wade, Upton are locks IMHO. I guess Romine could beat out Suzuki.
You have a minimum of two other OF, a starting SS, and that leaves one spot for Ward or Thaiss. Ward is more versatile and they want Thaiss to continue catching.

I don't think they're in the market for any of these guys. I think they'll resign Cishek and Buttrey is coming back. Greinke doesn't fit cuz he's old and gonna cost a lot. Angels want a rotation piece that costs less and is under control for at least 2022 and 2023.

Whoops. Obviously Clemente is the biggest name, but I didn't look back that far.
He was in the 1954 Rule V.

Jose Bautista, Josh Hamilton, George Bell other big names.

I know most of us hate this, but I looked up what some of these deals are worth
On the high end, Emirates pays Barca 280m over 5 years and on the low end, MLS teams get anywhere from 2-5m per year.
I have to think it will be somewhere in the 20m per year range for the high end teams - especially one that has Trout and Ohtani.
While I'm personally not a huge fan, I think I can get on board if it means an additional 20m in revenue per year that can go to additional payroll.

That's good news as we won't have to worry about the Angels losing Stefanic, Pina, or another non-protected player.
