He’s just wrong all the time and he revels in it. I’d say he’s just a troll and stick him on ignore but he posts so often and in literally every thread with the same bs. Some of the older posters on here know that sometimes there’s a poster who just doesn’t jive with the rest of the board and that’s how I’m seeing this dude

At some point, I guess we just have to realize that this guy is a troll.
Bauer hasn’t made his decision and I’d say the two front runners are Mets and Angels. Jays are third. He’ll make up his mind in the next 2-3 weeks.
Happ may make sense to some, but not to me, and not as the top free agent starter. I’d rather start Barria.

Marquez is another type 1 but both he and Castillo will cost almost the entire farm. They’re not getting traded for anything short of Adell, Marsh and Detmers and even that probably isn’t enough.

Howdy, new here to Angels Win. Someone sent me a link to this page and I found it interesting. Thank you for the kind words and enjoying the piece. As for the Wolf/Seminaris comparison: It was one of two that did not come from a scout and it actually came from the Long Beach State coach who played with Wolf. It was hard finding video of Wolf in his younger years, but I did find this side-by-side I made right after the draft that is a tad clearer (
Seminaris is definitely the better athlete of the pair between the stages of life in the side-by-sides, but I understand your confusion. It was definitely a challenge to make it close. Thanks again for the kind words.

So Eppler did a much much better job than DiPoto or Reagins sans Bane. The vast majority of the Angels top prospects have been selected under Eppler. I know that's a recency thing to some extent, but out of all those 2010-2015 guys, who would've been a top prospect in any other organization? Maybe Newcomb?
And that 2010 draft was a disaster. Only Cowart and Bedrosian saw the majors and not to much success. Obviously they would've have taken all of the 6 guys I mentioned instead, but say they took two? or three?

So you have a 7 man rotation with Ohtani or 6 without?

No free agent starter the caliber of Walker or Richards are going to sign on for a pen/rotation role. Canning isn’t going to start at AAA after two years in the rotation. Bundy and Heaney start.
I’m all about depth but no guy is gonna sign here if there’s not a clear role or rotation spot. You might get guys trying to prove they can still be major league pitchers to do that but I don’t think Richards or Walker sign on for that. Starters make way more money than most pen guys and unless they’re offered a closing role, no established starter ever wants to move to the pen.

This is why you sign guys like Dillon Peters or Jake Faria to minor league deals. Then they know they can possibly make the majors but would also maybe start in AAA.
Despite their injury histories neither of these guys are at that level.
And incidentally this is why earlier in the offseason I was saying they only needed one legit starter, cuz I didn’t think they’d go for a straight 6 man, which seems to be more of a possibility after Maddon’s interviews with the media a few weeks back. I thought they’d go to The 5.5 man they used in 2018 When Ohtani was healthy which limits the 6th man to way less starts.

Bundy, Heaney, Canning and Hendricks with one of the names you mentioned like Richards or Walker plus Ohtani is a legit rotation. And you have Barria and Pena in the pen and Sandoval and Suarez and Farria in AAA. Detmers and CRod in AA.
That seems like good depth to me.

    J. Pierrepont Reagins was a joke.
Some tried to say the 2010 draft in general was not very good.   Tell that to Yelich, Sanchez, Thor, Castellanos, Gyorko, and Simba.  HTF do you take Cowart over Yelich, Bedrock Jr. over Sanchez, Clarke over Thor, Bolden over Castellanos, and Lindsey over Simba ALL in the same draft???
Dumbpoto was dumb or stupid, take your pick.
    Eppler was an improvement.
Let’s hope Minasian is one over Eppler.

If not Bauer (6/180), Musgrove (3-4 Arb) Suzuki (2/7) and Joc (2/14)
    I think I’d prefer
Realmuto (5/120),  Taijuan Walker (2/16), Sonny Gray (3/32) and Joc (2/14)
Id also still look at adding a power lefty for the pen in each of these scenarios.

And you can do it by getting Bauer or Realmuto to take a smaller base in 2021, maybe 20 in Bauer’s case and 15 in Realmuto’s. (20+25+31+34+35+35 = 180). Or (16/24/24/28/28)

One of those guys is not like the others. Lol. Odorozzi is so overrated by the members of this board. He’s gonna get 15-17M a year annually too. For a guy that was injured all year last year basically.
Castillo will cost Adell, Marsh, Detmers and probably Sandoval or Jackson. Would decimate the farm. But he has three years of control under arbitration.
    Steeeep price.
Realmuto is the best catcher in baseball.
Joc is a near perfect platoon partner for Ward.

No Adams or Adell? Or no players that have an a in their names (impossible — cuz Jackson, Paris, Sandoval all have A’s lol)
If Sandoval, Jackson, Thaiss, and Knowles would do it I’m all in.
Take out the $7 M cash and substitute Barria for Sandoval and I’d do it.

How about Tanaka instead of Odorizzi?   He’s been pretty durable the past 6+ seasons, and is only 32 in 2021.
Agree that Castillo isn’t realistic, but Sonny Gray is.

I remember telling everyone that would listen that the Angels signing Pujols was a pipe dream, never going to happen. I laughed at the people that thought the Angels would allow Torii Hunter to walk. No way. I scoffed at the thought that they'd double down and sign Josh Hamilton to a big contract. I also said the Angels wouldn't be in on Simmons because they already had Erick Aybar. I didn't take anyone seriously when they suggested the Angels sign Anthony Rendon last winter when pitching was so clearly a need, as it always is.
JT Realmuto would not address the Angels needs, and is absolutely the type of acquisition they've made time and again.
So, I guess that means we are getting JT Realmuto.

Since Bane left, really. The 2009 draft was spectacular, and that was 11 1/2 years ago, so.. But the last decade has been poor.

According to Baseball Trade Values the Rays got 61 points of Value and the Padres got 53 which is a minor overpay.
61 points of value from the Angels system would’ve been Marsh, Detmers, Sandoval, and like Knowles or something similar.
The Angels did not have enough to match What the Rays were looking for in terms of position. They got arms and catchers, and that’s two things the Angels do not have.
Sonny Gray is at 36 on the value chart, and so that’s almost Marsh one to one. Add in some filler prospects and you’d end up being right there.

You also could build a package say around Sandoval, Adam’s and Jackson (34 total) though that wouldn’t likely be enough. especially since you’d have to over pay a bit, somewhere around 41-42 value package is like adding Yan and Thaiss to the above.
Adding in a bad contract would drastically reduce the amount needed to acquire Gray.
Both rumored contracts are between -17 and -20 in value.

For your reference, Luis Castillo has a value on here at 114. That is not possible to come up with a package for that doesn’t strip the farm bare and take on one or two of those bad contracts.
Say it’s for Castillo and Castellanos, you’d have to still come up with 95 value, so you’re looking at Adell, Adams, Detmers, Sandoval and Yan at least. And I don’t think that gets it done.

Gray and taking on Moose or Castellanos is probably doable, from a prospect standpoint.....just not sure how much room you’d have to get another pitcher. It would almost certainly rule out Bauer.....Castillo probably isn’t happening, even if you took on Moose and Castellanos, unless you back up the truck and let them pick any 5 of your prospects.....
