I 100% think that was the price for Burnes which is why it isn't done.

I don't love it at all, but signing Bellinger does allow the club some flexibility in considering moving someone like Schanuel, Rada, or Moniak as a key piece in a trade for a SP. Not necessarily this winter.
Before they signed Hoskins I had this bad feeling Milwaukee was asking for either Schanuel or Neto as the first name in a Burnes deal.

They've not been anywhere near this for their entire career, why do you think they would get there?
And Snell pitched 180 innings and people are worried about his length.

To clarify, I really like Ward. This is just based on signing Bellinger, in which case we'd have Bellinger in CF, Trout, Ward and Moniak/Adell. To me it's a choice between trading Moniak or Ward, and I'd rather keep Moniak for a few reasons. He is younger and more likely to improve, he's a better fielder, he's a lefty, and he has more years of control. Ward is already 30, and while he has 3 years of control, he's 33 at that point and then what? Moniak starts this year at 25.
I think signing Bellinger is one of the only avenues left where we can truly improve the team in a meaningful way. It helps the lineup because as it is right now, I feel like Moniak bats 6th. With Bellinger in the lineup, he can move down a spot and have less pressure to hit.

I'm just saying 180 over 32 starts is just a hair under where Canning was at 5.625 innings per start, or 5.2 if you count that way. (5.1, 5.2, etc.).
People call him a 5 inning pitcher, but in reality he's just the new norm.

Yeah, fewer but good options is what I prefer at a restaurant. I always said that if I opened a restaurant I'd have 5 good things on the menu and that's it. Of course, beer, wine and cocktails as well.

Thats pretty much what it will take.
Not high on Anderson would prefer Moose for 3B as we all know well likely need one at some point.
But, yeah, Snell, Bellinger, Hoskins, Moose ... thats what its going to take to actually be in the post mix.
Is that realistic, probably not, but thats real.
I still believe if Arte isnt willing to do that, then we should do a full rebuild.  Playing 500ish ball is making us worse, not better, its time for something drastic one way or the other.

If we do this maybe we can get John Rocker as our lefty out of the pen.

There are a lot of junk names on the 40. The first three candidates in my opinion are all relievers, in Quijada, Warren, and Herget. Two of these guys are out for 2024 with TJ, and havent been that successful in their major league careers so probably would clear waivers.
If they add another reliever, they could also lose another one of these three or go with guys like Suarez or Rosenberg...who may be why they haven't signed another lefty pen arm, they could be envisioning one of them in that role. Suarez is out of options, so he is either cut or makes the major league team.
They can shift guys to the 60-Day IL as soon as pitchers and catchers report, though the 60 days don't start until Opening Day.

Looks like they need another lefty...Moore come on down. Or perhaps they have confidence in Ingram to be a lefty option in the pen? Or if they sign a starter one of their lefty rotation arms likely goes to the pen. Does Anderson end up there? Sandoval / Detmers / Canning and Silseth are in the rotation, right?

Julio Urias! Give the kid a 3-year deal for like 12 million. He’s gonna miss time for the suspension, but will slot in nicely next year.

Add Trevor Bauer and now we have a rotation:
    Bauer, Urias, Detmers, Canning, Sandoval
