Taylor Ward is a 27 year old utility player.  He's not going to be what some of you want him to be.

It is hard not to get one's hopes up, especially when you consider that those 2018 pitching numbers were just him getting used to the majors. He really has the arsenal to be a 2.50 ERA, #1 pitcher.

Good to sign him up for 2 years

Good move by the Angels to sign him and avoid 2 years of arbitration. Hopefully he plays well so he can earn a longer contract.
Still have high hopes for this kid on the mound in the future. Only 26 years old.

Could be.  But as I said above, I think it's probably fair for both sides, as there's still a good amount of risk involved with him.  For the Angels, even if he's terrible and/or hurt for both of the next two seasons, this deal isn't going to make them or break them.  On his side, he potentially leaves a small amount on the table for 2022 if he does well this season--but he also protects his downside in case he's hurt/bad this season.  Seems like a good deal all around, given that.

    Good move!
We now just have to pray that Ohtani (2018) returns to the mound & plate.

Ace-Of-Diamonds reacted to Taylor in OC Register: MLB renews 7-inning doubleheaders, runners on second in extras
It also gives whichever team the Angels are playing an advantage since the Angels couldn't score a runner from second if their life depended on it.

I truly hate the runner on 2nd rule for extra innings. I get the 7 inning double-headers, but putting a runner on base who didn't earn his way there makes no sense. I get why reporters like that rule--they get to finish their stories and go home earlier, but as a fan, I do not like the rule at all. It gives the visiting team too much of an advantage.

No way to make any judgements of him yet.
We have no idea what the trade market is. And covid is a bigger deal than i think people are acknowledging.... taking on huge deals right now i think is very risky.
It may be behind us next year and things go back to normal.... buuuut thats just an assumption.
I think with trout and rendon, you have to balance that with cheap, in house options. Regardless of pujols and upton leaving soon. And in order to do that, it takes us out of the huge trades wed like to see

IMO nothing yet.  The job is obviously incomplete.  but, to be fair hes made some smart/good/fiscally responsible moves to date, but if he fails to address the elephant in the room it will be hard to call it a success.

This is the Angels we're talking about here. If only one pitcher is hurt, that would be otherworldly successful. It's a script we've already seen play out.
Worst case, and judging by the last couple years, most realistic: Andrew Heaney is going to deal with deadarm that lasts for 3 weeks in April. Canning's elbow will act up in March and he'll need six weeks for everything to calm down, and will return shortly before Memorial Day. Shohei Ohtani will lose command of his pitches and suddenly experience a significant velo drop in the second inning of a Spring Training start, and shift into a DH role.
If that happens, Barria, Sandoval, Naughton, Detmers, and Rodriguez should find plenty of opportunity at some point in 2021.
But that paints a darker picture than is reality. Some good will come of it. Bundy still continue to pitch like a front end arm, Quintana will be unspectacular, yet efficient. Barria will emerge as a solid 4th starter, and Sandoval will be decent for 3 innings at a time, which should lead to a successful run in the bullpen.

They need to distance themselves from the MAGA extremists. That should be one of their highest priorities. If they can’t/won’t, then maybe it’s time to start a new Conservative party.

as for the dems, they were a mess after 16. It was Bernie the socialist and the new green deal morons, nothing but extremists. Biden was a moderate amongst them, and I believe the party finally backed him because he would have a wider appeal to the plethora of moderates from coast to coast. They also rebounded more quickly because trump was such an unlikeable person.
I’m interested to see how Biden’s first 100 days go and how many of trumps policies he reverses. He has a huge task ahead of him in trying to woo the moderate conservatives - the extremists won’t follow him no matter what.
then we’ll have to do it all over again a year later when he resigns due to his health and Harris takes over. I don’t see her winning over any conservatives unless she makes some changes in how she wants to govern.
