  1. What the Angels need at LF is a good defensive, speedy player who can lead-off. Gordon is 31 YOA (A1 class defense; B3 speed; C4 leadoff) would be a good addition for his defense, the rest is average. Gordon could be offered 4 years but at no more than 10-12 million. Zobrist 34 YOA, (B1 defense; C1 speed and B1 leadoff) would be a better fit at 2B, but no team is going to give Zobrist more than one year maybe two at about 7-8 million. He is 34 and already showing signs of wear and tear. I would rather sign a guy like Gerardo Parra from the Orioles who is more of a complete LF with some power and not bad speed. Parra will command somewhere between Gordon and Zobrist and it is more likely it won't cost a draft pick because the Orioles are not about to give him a QO. LF could also come via trade for a young pitcher or prospect if the above mentioned are too costly. Heyward I think is out of the question, too expensive and has hardly played LF.
  2. We need Carew as Hitting Coach

  3. Believe the Angels have enough depth at 1B/DH, Pujols, Cron & Navarro. Eppler should concentrate on LF, 3B, 2B and BP. A starting pitcher like Wei-Yin Chen, 30, lefty, and has had a good ERA for the past 2 years (Avg 3.44 ERA) wouldn't be a bad signing either...
  4. Excellent research Robert. I agree that Avila would be a good choice for a platooning job with Perez but what do you think about Saltalamacchia as an unexpensive replacement for Iannetta? Saltalamacchia is still young (30), is durable (played 158 games last season with three teams) and numbers wise it wasn't a bad season for him .251 BA; .332 OBP; .474 SLG; and .805 OPS; he is a switch hitter which will come handy for Scioscia, and best of all, I think he won't be too expensive.
  5. To play where? DH is already Pujol's position with maybe 1 or 2 days on the field, and at 40 years of age, he hardly deserves his 27 million salary (AP + A-Roids = 52 million just in DHs) If the Angels are going to go over the luxury threshold, it should be for a young and upcoming player.
  6. Tex wants to come to Anaheim now when his body is broken down? Wrist. injury/surgery ended his season in June 2013; Fractured shin ended his season in 2015; Here’s a look at Mark Teixeira’s injury woes since he signed an eight-year, $180-million contract before the 2009 season. In the first three years of the contract, he played 470 of a possible 486 regular-season games. In the last three, he’s played 142 of a possible 328. He's bad news, stay away from LAA! Cron and AP will do just fine...
  7. Although it might look as a stampede, I think the departure of Servais, Klentak and Bogar facilitates Eppler's job by letting him pick his own team. Now Eppler will be fully responsible for his baseball operations results since he will be picking all his people. What I didn't like from Klentak, Servais and Bogar is that they did not place their jobs at Eppler's disposition when he arrived; instead, they stayed and started looking for jobs elsewhere not wanting to renounce their hefty paychecks... They are as selfish as most baseball people.
  8. Yes indeed. I'll just throw some names of not-so-good managers who were catchers: Bob Boone, Jerry Narron, Buck Martinez, Tony Peña, John Russell, and the latest, Mike Redmond of the Miami marlins....
  9. Not only that, the Angels do not need Heyward to hit HRs, just to be the lead-off, hit, get on base and steal bases. The HRs can be left to Trout, Pujols and Calhoun.....
  10. Great! All three have the same ideas about metrics and data. It all should work great for Seattle, too bad Scioscia was not "on the same page"....
  11. I thought Roenicke already worked for the Dodgers as 3B coach.....
  12. I rather have Gerardo Parra (Orioles) in LF, Daniel Murphy at 2B, Freese at 3B, and trade Santiago for Bullpen help. Murphy might not cost us a pick because I think the Mets will not give him a QO, same with Parra who is a decent LF. Freese signed for 3-4 years at 8 mil would be fair.
  13. Robert, when talking replacement for Aybar, I think Featherston should be given consideration ahead of Ryan Jackson. Featherston's Arm, Fielding and Range are more than adequate; his power, plate discipline and speed are also good for a player that was forced to play 2B and 3B because he had very good players ahead of him in the Rockies and Angels (Tulowitzki & Aybar). In my opinion, Featherston's body and abilities screams SS, I think M Scioscia likes him, so if Aybar were to be moved/traded, in my opinion,Taylor Featherston would be the player to man the SS position.
