  1. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24678645/escobars-agent-tampa-is-a-great-fit-for-yunel-oakland-may-not-be TL;DR "My client is a high maintenance malcontent who finally found an organization willing to put up with his bullshit."
  2. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/odds/ They run 1000s of simulations of the remainder of the regular season using run differential, strength of schedule, etc. If a team has a 50% of making the playoffs, that just means that the team made the "playoffs" in 50% of their simulations.
  3. The sky is not falling. Since the All Star break, we are 10 - 10 against some of the better teams in MLB and have been very competitive in most of the losses. Our next 12 games are against teams with records below .500. It sucks to lose to the stupid Dodgers but these stretches happen over the course of a long season.
  4. He's rocking a -0.9 dWAR that has negated his offensive contributions. Pretty remarkable considering that's only in ~150 innings.
  5. Realistically though, the A's are extremely weak up the middle at 2B & SS with no immediate help in their prospect pipeline. I don't necessarily see a blockbuster intra-division trade happening, but the two teams do appear to have complementary needs.
  6. What up Angel fans? Glad I stumbled upon this forum - it's loads better than the bitch & whine sesh at the angelsbaseball.com forums. I've been a fan since 1995 - a couple of years after my family moved to Orange County from London. I tried to like the Padres during my years at UC San Diego, but it's like watching a lineup full of John McDonald's. I go to Chapman now and try to make it to as many games as possible.
  7. This is interesting, but doesn't your methodology only consider part of a player's contribution? What about defense? Pitching? You identified your research question as " Which players on my team contributed the most to that day’s game?" What about win shares? http://www.baseballgraphs.com/main/index.php/site/details/
